I practice Shou' Shu' and I'm wanting to add some grappling techniques to throw my brother off whenever we spar(we're in the same style and rank). So, my question is,can anyone suggest any techniques that I could practice? I pick things up fairly easily, so throw whatever you got at me. ^_^

i'm not too familiar with your style so i dont know what's legal and what's not. but standing wrist locks and arm locks like Ude Gatame Hara Gatame Kannuki Gatame work well and catch people off guard because most people don't expect standing locks. also, a few throws i'd look into would be O Soto Gari, Tai Otoshi, Harai Goshi, Seoi Nage. all good techniques to catch the unsuspecting off guard

Just no breaks while sparring.. We don't spar in class usually, so we just go to the park and spar.
And thank you, I'll look those up here in a bit.. On the ground he can't touch me, but standing we're fairly even so I want to try to mix it up a bit.. I feel that I've gotten too predictable.

in Judo we have a term Renraku Waza or Combination techniques. he may be even or btter than you but if you keep firing techniques at him eg; footsweeps, trips, offbalancing, attempted throws... eventually you'll get him because you're forcing him to be defensive the whole time. if he's defending, he's not attacking and it's only a matter of time until his balance is switched in too many directions and he's unable to flow with it and ends up falling. if you tell us more about your strengths and his weaknesses and how he usually gets you down with detail we could be more of a help with specific techniques for you to tryout.

Hmm, that's an interesting concept.. I'm usually on the defensive because he goes for a lot or rapid attacks(such as he uses a kick he learned in Shotacon Karate). I don't know the name.. But he gets into a wide horse and does a side kick to open up, then he usually goes for a combo of punches going mid and high.
Besides that he is a lot faster than me so he gets behind me easily, I can usually get him with a few spinning elbows, but occasionally he'll get me pretty hard with a couple kidney shots.

My weakness is that I'm a bit on the slow side.. I can block in tie and whatnot, but he's always speeding ahead and getting into a lot of my defenses.
My strengths are definitely my powerful kicks and my ground/grappling game, if I can get him close enough I can usually end up making him tap.

Work on the basics man. Forget about learning submissions. Learn about positions first. Learn the position hierarchy. Guard<half guard<North-south position<side control<knee on belly<mount<rear mount. Start working on getting these positions. Then when you start getting good at that, then start working on your submission game. But get a good solid base first.

That's the thing, my ground game is fine, and I don't do MMA so a lot of those won't help me any. It's just I'm tired of coming up short in sparring against him.. He's literally the only person that I've sparred that I haven't bee able to beat.

You mean sparring in general, or BJJ sparring? If you just mean in general, then stick to your guns. If he's fucking you up stand up wise, then take him to the ground. If you can't, then you need to work on your judo and wrestling. Don't play his game by standing up with him.

Just normal sparring, neither of us have even done BJJ. I've worked a little Judo and Ju-jitsu, though I never got very far in there.

first off, you're gonna have to learn to close the distance and get into a clinch with him. best way usually is hands up and just rush in (guarded and aware so you don't get clipped) and tie him up. he'll probably be pushing away and that sets up a perfect time for O Uchi Gari. if' he's using a wide horse stance O Uchi Gari is a terrific option. and when used in combination with Ko Uchi Gari if he tries to spin behind you you'll trip him O Uchi Gari Ko Uchi Gari Usually if he's not expecting it he won't counter and will be thrown by the initial O Uchi Gari, but if, for some reason, he manages to lift his leg out and not go down use in combination O Uchi Gari into Ko Uchi Gari
