Maybe the Gracies only ever felt it's wrath, they were never actually taught the move...?

Me too, I think some of those could even be used in a Muay Thai clinch - With gloves.

Sounds feasible to me.
It's strange how he uses the hand for grip which is how catch does it & I heard Kimura learned a bit of catch from Rikidozan who could have taught him that variation.
I played a bit with the gi grip variation form the turtle about 2/3 into the vid and if you have it in it's impossible to escape from what I can tell & now me and my buddy call it the true Kimura lol
I also found a dvd of kosen judo I want to buy & I'll post the preview in another page for people to see.

Sounds like a plan. I'll let you know how my Kimura throw goes when I try it.

I'd love to hear it & I want to try it out too against my judo buddy but it's cold and we usually roll outside in his yard so were limited to a bit of indoor ne-waza usually in the winter

Not this time. I goofed it up and my sparring partner rolled over my hip and back to his feet, he was cluey to it after that. It really needs to be snuck in with more finesse than I possess.

To me it feels like I need a lot more practice to do it & english instructions would help too lol
It feels like just when you land you need to hit a solid base immediately so you can get it or you'll be thrown with their momentum.
Did you try any others that the standing version at first?

Others were all kids. I was afraid of breaking one of them.

I'm still struggling. I've got the day shifts so I'm sparring with better sparring partners and I've been trying to get the throw in but it's not an easy task, you only get one shot and it's really obvious after that what you were up to.

Personally I noticed if you can put the kimura on standing then roll into it it's easier than anyhting else I tries.
It just takes some practice to get that standing kimura on and doing everything fast before you get countered from what I can tell.

True dat. I was just after completion of the throw before worrying about the continuation of the attack.
