Saw the Anime thread was starting to lean towards gaming. Jumping the gun and making a thread on it.
I'm sure a majority of the martial arts community has played fighting games, and some of you may have even been influenced by it. Share your experience.
I've been hooked on Street Fighter X Tekken on my PS3 lately, but I was a huge fan of King of Fighters series when I was younger. Those arcade machines were so much more popular back then. I like how online gaming allows me to play against anyone in the world, but I miss the days of being surrounded by other players and going head to head in person.
At least I'm saving money on quarters now.

good to see you here drunior!
And I've been hooked on street fighter x capcom on my computer it's pretty epic with the jewel system.
I like all fighting games especially the early 2000s king of fighters and the capcom vs games.
I like rpgs too and your right I miss the arcades too man just filled with people who had no idea what they were doing because there were no instruction manuals and you had to learn the moves yourself lol

i used to play street fighter, art of fighting, and some others.
BTW, Ryo Sakazaki's stance in AOF2 was a kyokushin one, if im not mistaken.
something i dont like, is the women on those games, dunno their clothes seem very out of place (except in AOF 1 & 2, there they seem properly dressed), like if they received the invitation to the tournament, and were:"i have been invited to a fighting tournament where my life could be at risk, should i bring some kind of armor, at least some clothing to avoid some cuts, the traditional outfit of my art, the thing i am wearing right now? nah, ill just go on my underwear"

Street Fighter is what got me into martial arts LOL. Played that shit as a kid, and I wanted to be just like Ryo. So I joined up in Karate at 6. So Street Fighter will always hold a special place in my gamer heart.
Any of you guys play Shenmue? Probably my favorite game. Not a two player fighting game. But theres martial arts and fighting in it.

Yeah, I remember the part about learning how to do all the characters special moves yourself lol. Sometimes the machines had those tiny little sticks on the bottom of the screen with directions. Most of us had those couple of guys who had gaming magazines with all the move lists on it. lol Art of Fighting was fun, and took me a while to adjust because I was used to games like Street Fighter or Fatal Fury. In regards to clothes, it's funny that they are dressed properly but also their clothes would get ripped if you finish them off with a special move. I used to think you can really do a tatsumaki (that spinning kick Ryu does) if you trained.

yeah but story wise, it made sense, getting your clothes torn is much more logical than going to fight in undies.
btw, i used to try to do the double dragon moves. yeah, it was cool since those were actually posible to do.

Kyokushin has no stances all it's own, they're either from Goju-ryu or Shotokan Karate. I'm a fan of Bloody Roar but for the most part I don't really get into fighting games, I like RPG games and adventures, the ones that are like an interactive novel.

Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Marvel heroes, Tekken, final fantasy.... lol. A few games I'm playing now are Uncharted 3, Deus Ex: HE and Syndicate and they all have amazing self defense techniques, some that are familiar to me and others completely new.

That's actually a pretty common stance in full contact fighting styles. It's versatile and gives a lot of options for movement and attacking. Muay Thai Shotokan Kickboxing and Kyokushin Even bears dig that stance.

Street fighter 2 and art of fighting are the main ones that got me hooked into fighting games, other games that I played alot back in the day: Violence fight Time killers Mortal Kombat (I only played the first 3) Street Smart X-men: children of the atom World Heroes Fatal Fury King of fighters (only played the first 2 though) Ninja blade Last Blade. Virtua fighter Darkstalkers I also enjoyed beat-em-up games, such as: DD crew Vendetta The punisher Teenage mutant ninja turtles I was really into fighting games, loved alot of Capcom and SNK games. Currently I'm more into shooter and RPG games. For years I was into strategy ones like command and conquer (damn EA for destroying Westwood) , warcraft, startcraft, and starcraft2.
