I'm always told that if u rush or overtrain qigong u can cause serious damage to urself on top of getting poorer quality results. What exactly is the damage that can be caused? How serious? Any info rly would be great.

You already probably know that I'm going to tell you it's a load of crap, so I won't go into it this time. BUT if you believe in Chi there could be one of many different answers to this. Some believe that any negative attitude, including impatience, can lead to developing too much negative energy which can be harmful to your health or slow down your progress. Some also believe that harnessing Chi too quickly can actually cause physical damage. Totally depends on who you talk to, so see what your Sifu says.

what I've been taught we dont really look at the negative energy/attitudes or mystical sounding stuff. its more about the physical internal aspects like how ur organs are affected. so i assume perhaps if u overtrain or train premeturly maybe ur organs get weakened or sum thing. but yea thats a guess and i will ask my sifu just my next class is still a couple days off.

There are very real physical results stemming from your training. They are not mystical, and there is nothing mystical about qigong training. Your organs are all affected by your training, as they are affected by your attitude, and your diet. It's not some mystical thing, it is chemical, and is a physiological response to your stressors, and the way you handle them.
A lot of your training if done without supervision can cause you to create issues with blood flow, and innervation into your organs, as well as the release and storage of poor chemicals from your diet. You can also damage your joints, by moving improperly while practicing the moving meditations.

Good question! I once read an article by a student of Master George Mattson, Uechi Ryu practitioner, that gave me some insight to this. I had always heard about it, but no one offered any details. Mattson's student, named Bill Glasheen, did. Before anyone dismisses this article, I will paraphrase his qualifications - doctorate in biomedical engineering... here it is - uechi-ryu.com/breathng.htmThere are many schools of Neigong as well as different training methods. The Okinawan internal training comes from Fujian and Hakka Boxing systems. Some classify them as "hard" or "soft" and "internal/external". Either way, they yield similar results. The idea is to generate fields of energy between the layers of your "fascia" and this creates a barrier that protects your internal organs from blunt force trauma. This is science. Because "modern scientists" cannot see or this field of energy, they dismiss it. But in actuality, some scientists HAVE successfully measured it. I did a research paper on this last semester and found citations documenting it. The problem is that some people want to be the only ones who are "right" - even if they are not! It is widely accepted that the body - all its components, communicate by bio-electric impulses. So why do some people not believe that the human being can utilize the electromagnetic field it generates? Bottom line is that Internal training should only be done under the supervision of a properly trained expert. If you are not properly trained in it, leave it alone until you can find a qualified instructor.

koryuhoka -
You touched on something with the fascia... You should do some research into human dissection and the nervous pathways, as well as the fascia layers. There's some fantastic stuff in that world, as well as the pulmonary system.
