I'm using this as a blanket term. That means anything from natural disaster, the collapse of civilization, of even the zombie apocalypse. Are you ready? I'm still stocking up on supplies for when Z-day comes. I'm traveling in any direction I need to go in except east because I live in New York so that wouldn't make a difference. I'd be going into the Atlantic ocean! I know Z-day or 2012 (my blanket term for the natural disaster part) won't come but the collapse of civilization could come. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Well, my plan is to head to Tennessee... I know plenty of spots out there where there is a much lower chance of running into people.. I'm hoping we'll get a good ole' ZomPoc, but that's just me.. I've started storing food and have tons of water.
I've surveyed a few areas out in the woods that would be perfect.. Have tons of wild animals, fresh streams all over the place.

I'm stocked on weapons and ammo. As far as supplies go I'm not. My thought is, you can collect a bunch of non-perishable cans of food, but realistically, your house will likely store no more than 5 years worth of food. What will you do then? After those 5 years, anything processed and man made will be long gone. You'll have to learn how to hunt, and gather food, as you're starving. My thought is its best to learn without those necessities, right when the disaster occurs. Learn how to hunt, learn how to survive in the wilderness with almost nothing. Make yourself completely independent of anything and anyone.
By stocking up on food, you become a target yourself, and people will eventually hear of your stock supply and break into your house, threatening the safety of your family. So to me, thats why its silly to stock up on food and supplies.

I'm aimed for more towards the zombie apocalypse. I have a army survival bag brand new I got from my cousin and when it hits, I plan on getting changed, grabbing my bags, pack some extra food, and then heading out.

I have all my supplies. I can speak fluent Portuguese (that won't help though) and almost fluent Spanish so i'm basically good with language. The Chinese or Russians will know some English so i'm set too. I know how to make basic explosives but not advanced ones. I'm set. All I need is an ACU suit or something like that. I'm planning on heading to the gun store but i'm kinda cautious about it because everyone else is going there too when it hits. It's like a 5 minute drive from my house but like 35 minute walk from my house.

...This sounds an awful lot like the Y2K bug bullshit all over again.
Honestly if the Mayan calander was right and there was an asteroid five months coming we'd have picked up on it about two months ago, yes our astrology shit is that good. Call me crazy but I'm not buying it.

No, not the 2012 thing. I'm more prepared for the zombie apocalypse or the collapse of civilization.

Zombies. ... ... ... Honestly I think brain stealers would be the very least of your troubles Zen. Kokoro's threat on the other hand sounds very plausible, maybe you should find out where he lives and launch an early strike to keep your supplies safe. I know he's no threat to me. I live in Australia and if I do stock up it will be on vegemite and sarsparilla.

I like Keyboard Warrior's ideas. Though I would keep a smaller stash of non-perishable food cans in case hunting doesn't go well for a while or lots of people are doing the same. What happens if the animals die or the fish are poisoned? Could happen in a nuclear attack or chemical war. I have Mandarin down and am learning Cantonese too. I'm not worried about the Russians or learning Spanish. If the Chinese don't become the boss, the Indians will.

Doomsday prepping is retarded. If there's going to be a collapse of society, it's going to be CAUSED by the types of people who are prepping. They won't be the victims like they think. Why? Because the idea behind prepping is that some disaster will happen and everybody will automatically go into "every man for himself" mode. Well, that isn't how things happen here in the real world. Society can only collapse if people let it collapse.
I'll explain: All society really is, is a bunch of people helping each other out by doing what they do best. Nobody is skilled at everything. Society thrives because everybody uses their own unique skills to help everybody else. It's just plain more efficient than everybody trying to do everything on their own. So if there's a disaster and everybody sticks together, there's no collapse of society. But if everybody freaks out and holes up inside their homes thinking that everything is going to go to hell and it's every man for himself, then it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The "preppers" will be the cause of the collapse, not the disaster.
