The idea is to end the fight as quickly as possible, not to prolong it like a Ring fight. Don't wrestle with them, throw them down. Don't go to the ground with them, kick them while they're down. Don't try to box with them, just drop them and walk away.

That's kind of what a ring fighter does Kokoro. The difference is the fact that his opponent is guaranteed to be a fighter too. Throwing them is harder. Kicking them while they're on the ground is harder. Dropping them is harder. But since the ring fighter faces this problem on a regular basis there are a couple of things they do better. They're better at throwing because they're used to being resisted. They're better at kicking people on the ground because their usual targets know how to defend themselves. They're better at dropping average Joes because they have experience dropping people who fight back hard.

the biggest problem I've noticed with ring fighters in their footwork is bad for self defence because you can't glide on cement or around chair the way you can in a ring and I like to play with that.
I never train to fight your average jioe because when you do that and some nazi dickhead soldier tries to fight you and fight like he's an average joe you oculd get hurt and around here we have a problem with stupid drunk american soldiers for some reason... and sometimes they start fights and you can't fight them like you would your average joe same with gangsters with 10 years martial arts experience won't fight the same as one without and I've met both kinds.
It's total bs that you will only be attacked by untrained drunk randoms and the reality is some bad people out there are trained in ways to make being bad easier for them.
A good example is many hells angels bikers in canada do muay thai and boxing.

So if you're chancing on running into a Hell's Angel or a Naval soldier you'd be standing a better chance if you have more fighting experience, like a ring fighter.

well I said soldier & biker because you never know who is who in civilian clothes and the guy sitting next to you at church could be an ex badass with more knockouts under his belt than mike tyson so you never know who your messing with unless you know them and it's better to have training than no training... but limited training is just that... limited lol

Yeah, church tends to have some really interesting individuals. I like church halls, they're quiet and an easy place to think. I wonder how many other characters like churches for the same reason?

Again church was just an example of where good people are supposed to go lol but it can be anywhere that has people you don't know are soldiers or bikers or whatever.
Anybody could be a killer just not everyone shows it.

Church hasn't been a place exclusively for good people since...ever.

the best for self defence is parkour because it teaches you not to engage because engaging can get you hurt meaning you failed to defend yourself thus failing self defence.

Okay, Running is good, but there can be a time when running is not an option. Like when several guys came up from behind me to rob me. I didn't know it. A gun was put to my head. Running wasn't an option. Disarming the one with the gun was an option and they all ran off. That might not have been the best option. I could have been killed, but it happened so fast. Maybe if I didn't disarm them I might have been killed. These things I don't know. But I do know I;m still here to tell the story many years later. I also don't put myself into situations like that anymore.

Shouldn't that be you "Try not to get in situations like that anymore"? Last I heard people who suffer muggings tended not to have much say in the matter.

That is me. I don't go to places like that anymore. It was a very crowded place. I tend to stay away from large crowed areas. If I'm in a crowded area I maintain my personal space. I was wearing a lot of jewelry. I still wear jewelry, but it is in more moderation.
That day as I tried to leave that place there was a big shoot out. A large group of guy were having a shoot out with the police. I saw this after hearing shots. I turned to go back into the building but the door closed and it was an exit only. They were running right past me shooting and ducking between cars on the lot. I'm grateful that I survived.
I know a guy that used to go to church with me. Someone tried to mug him. He ran. He was shot as he ran. He survived but still has at least one bullet inside of him. Like I said running is not always an option.
I was in a bad car accident about 5 years ago. It doesn't seem like 5 years has passes. My leg was broken in 2 places. I had 2 surgeries. I still have pain and swelling. My doctor and physical therapist say that if I have this going on after 2 years it is something that i will deal with the rest of my life. I can't run anymore. So attempting to learn parkour for self defense is not an option for me.
of course I teach my students to run if they can, but I also teach them what to do when running is not an option. Plus if they are like me they might not be much of a runner anyway. I wasn't going to outrun too many people using speed. I wasn't the slowest guy, but I definitely wasn't the fastest guy. I would win more distance races that I could win sprints.

Judo lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=frMJjSstOXQ I personally think wrestling because you have more of a solid base and you can just control them and do what the hell you like and it's not like you're going to be taken down or outgrappeled

I think pro wrestling is the best because like you can jump off a roof onto someones head and cripple them for life and it doesn't take much training just enough balls to jump off a rooftop lol
