Some have said that it is a modern martial art, even though it has come about before many karate systems in the world today.
It's a mixture of many different styles of fighting, from a British soldier in the early 1900's.

Some British dude called Edward Barton-Wright came back returned to Britain from Japan in the late 19th century. Now, after living there for three years, he was influenced by the Japanese martial arts, and so combined the best elements from a range of martial arts to create what he called "self-defense in all forms". He created a Bartitsu club somewhere in London, but sadly his marketing skills were shitty and he ended up closing his club due to lack of interest and what was most likely high prices. The club itself lasted less than 3 years. However, recently there has been interest in reviving Bartitsu and so it is still practiced by the Bartitsu society.
Essentially, Bartitsu is the first eclectic martial art. Mr. Barton-Wright is actually remembered as one of the earliest mixed martial artists.
