A good gym has opened next to where I live and seeing as I haven't practised a martial art in months, I thought I'd try the boxing or mma sessions there. However, what should I choose?
I suppose I could start boxing first and then move on to MMA, but if I do so I'll probably neglect training other forms of combat in favour of fist fighting.
Anybody had a scenario like this before? Care to share your experiences/knowledge?

I'd go Boxing first. You will get fit, learn to defend yourself and learn proper Boxing technique. MMA doens't teach Boxing technique as well IMO.
Then go and do MMA or BJJ......you will be fit and pick it up quick.
Boxing is an awesome foundation to start with and build upon.
From Boxing I would suggest adding grappling later either BJJ, Judo, MMA, wrestling or Krav Maga if self defense is your primary thought.
