Can I be successful?
I have been in bjj for two months. I've been in boxing for several days now. I absolutely love both and cannot imagine not doing one of them. My only worries is that by doing both, I would not be dedicating enough time to be successful in either. I plan to compete in bjj and compete as an amateur in boxing. My time constraints are due to being a full time graduate student. Both bjj and boxing gyms in my area are open at the same times, which happen to also be the only times I can train. I was training in bjj 6 days a week, an hour each day. If I were to join boxing, I'd be training boxing Monday, Wednesday, Friday (2 hours each day), and bjj Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday (1 hour and a half a day, but the last 30 minutes are rolling. Thus, I'd be training boxing 6 hours a week and bjj 4 hours and 30 minutes a week. Would this schedule be sufficient in me having success at each, considering my goals of competing in both? I've much contemplated doing only one for optimal focus and energy to be successful but I just can't let the other go. I'm currently 21 years old and have been athletic all of my life. I have no desire to do mma.

Oh ok, that was you that asked this on YA! I'll copy and paste my answer that I left for you on YA!
"Many martial artists cross train. If you put in the same effort that you put in BJJ into boxing, then theres really no reason you can't be successful at both. They're two very different styles, so don't worry about getting confused. If you're training these two arts separately then you'll be fine. If for example you were doing Boxing and BJJ in an MMA class, you're right, you probably won't master either style, because in an MMA class you won't go as in depth as you would if it was solely a BJJ or boxing class."
I'll just add that you shouldn't worry so much how long your training for. Boxing may come naturally to you but BJJ won't. BJJ is completely counter intuitive and for many people, like me it took me a while to start getting good at it. So just show up often and put in the work and you'll be good.

I see nothing wrong with the times you wrote. I would probably do the Boxing for 4.5 hours and the BJJ for six. That's just me though.
I myself train in both and plan to compete in BJJ and as a golden gloves Boxer. The Boxing training will make you super fit for BJJ and the BJJ training will add explosiveness and endurance to your Boxing.
But I train a lot more in BJJ than Boxing simply because I have found Boxing easier. Every so often I also do some personal training with my Boxing instructor.
I think what your doing is right, keep training in both. You will get great in both and be a machine standing and on the ground. Solid base. I always suggest people do either Boxing or Muay Thai with BJJ for self defence. And then later do some Krav Maga for weapon defense. Your doing great for self defense and what you enjoy:)

i don't recommend cross training so early in your training. i think you are better off focusing on one style. for a few years then cross training. and getting a solid foundation.
the problem with doing two arts early in your training is they often tend to conflict and teach different patterns, philosophy, etc although in your case your doing boxing and bjj so the conflict might be minimum, since one focuses on standing striking and the other on ground grappling.

The only problem I see with cross training is when you train in two stand up styles or two grappling styles, just out out of fear of being left confused. If he's training a ground and stand up style, then they're two completely different styles, that run no risk of overlapping, so I don't really see a problem with it. But thats just me.

There is nothing wrong with cross-training, even in two stand-up or two grappling styles. The problem comes with mistakening cross-training with style-hopping. Somebody who cross-trains Kyokushin and Boxing for three or five years will be fine, it's the person who has a few weeks or months apiece of multiple schools and styles in the same time frame who won't learn a thing.

Boxing and BJJ.....been proven in the UFC and history of MMA.
Boxing with any wrestling has been the core of most military combat systems e.g Defendu

As it turns out, the main boxing gym I was entertaining going to costs $125 a month, and I can't pay it on top of bjj which is also $125 per month. So I decided to go with Castillo's gym, which is $35 monthly, no contract, instead. I have a contract with bjj, and I very much dislike contracts. For now, I'll be doing boxing 4 days a week and bjj for 2. I don't know if it's a good investment, but it's the way I'm going to keep it, for the next 3 years of my life, until I can devote enough time to boxing and hopefully go amateur.
