Since I quit Bajiquan as I started not to like it, I was looking for a new school to go to and I checked out a Taijiquan school, Kyokushin School, Combat Hapkido school, and on my way home, I heard of and found a very well known/reputable Sanshou school and I took a look and it's really nice and looks legit. I never really seen Combat Hapkido besides on Youtube and it looks very similar to Krav Maga. The only reason I don't join a traditional Hapkido school is because I saw a thread on Sherdog where the person said that there is no such thing as traditional Hapkido and if a school claims they teach traditional Hapkido, it's either a fake or the teacher is a Taekwondo teacher who learned a few joint looks and calls it Hapkido. So which one should I take? Any opinions or thoughts? Thanks for taking the time and reading this.

There is such as thing as traditional Hapkido, the guy on Sherdog was wrong.
Hapkido was founded by Choi Yong-sool who trained in Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu when he lived in Japan. That is why Hapkido is very similar to Aikido because both Choi Yong-sool and Morihei Ueshiba the founder of Aikido studied Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu which is the father of both Hapkido and Aikido.
Choi Yong-sool taught what became Hapkido when he returned to South Korea. He added traditional Korean martial arts to it which resulted in Hapkido having a lot more striking than the similar Aikido. He also added Judo.
Hapkido was taught to the South Korean secret service and special forces in the 70's and 80's.
It is legit and practical. I know four policemen in Sydney, Australia who train in it and have used it when the bad goes down.
Combat Hapkido may be the less legit one. I suspect it is a mans adaption.
I suggest the Combat Hapkido if it is legit as Hapkido is self defense focused such as for defense against weapons or either the Kyokushin or Sanshou schools.

My reply has been deleted! This has happened to me 5 times already... To sum up what I was saying in the first one I wrote is that the CH place does't spar or hit pads, just show techniques and i'll check out the traditional Hapkido when I have time and decide then and i'll say which one I picked. I'll do more research on Hapkido right now.

No as soon as I posted it, it never was shown. I checked out the traditional Hapkido school and it seemed pretty cool. Lots of partner drills and joint lock and throwing techniques, good stuff. No forms though. The sparring was only semi contact and I didn't like that. I think i'm gonna go to the Sanshou place and sign up soon.

My first post has been deleted...again... For the second time, to sum up what I said, I will let you know how it is and that I get to start as early as tomorrow. The only problem will be is the communication with the teachers because I have an accent and only know about 70% of English so I will have to get use to not having my cousin sometimes help me understand what the instructors is saying like I had with Bajiquan. I guess that means I will have to listen more hard and carefully.

Sanshou would teach you how to fight better in m opinion as opposed to Combat Hapkido. Heard many bad things about it. Se precisas de ajuda com quaisquer traducoes daqui, podes me perguntar pa.

I can't wait to see how it goes. There is a Jow Gar Kung Fu school near where I live and am thinking of checking it out. They do Talou (forms) and Sanshou. I spoke to the teacher and he said that the Sanshou classes involve sparring (including full contact), body conditioning and all the techniques you see in the Sanshou videos on youtube.
I want to move away from Boxing. I like it but its bad on the hand I broke a few years back.

You should try it. It seem like fun. I always wanted to try Boxing but I don't like using just my hands.
