I'll be sure to come by and school your sensei a bit. Totally kidding. I consider myself a Muay Thai student somewhere between the "Beginner" and "Intermediate" level. I know the techniques for the most part, but when it comes to application I have a lot of growing to do. I'm at a level, though, where my coach doesn't mind me giving advice because he knows I'll only help with covering what I know and keep my mouth shut and defer to him if I'm not the best person to ask. I think a cool add on to this discussion would be: What level do YOU think you're honestly at when you look closely at yourself?

When I look at myself I can say that I'm a strong stand up striker but I have to admit that I am weaker on the ground for sure. This might just be because I've trained in Kyokushin longer or I naturally prefer to be standing, not really sure.
I'd love to see how many people can put their ego aside and honestly rate how skilled a fighter they think they are.

Level? I think I'd be sitting somewhere around competent as a striker and struggling at grappling.

I'm half black half native american and I played basketball my whole life but always got racism since I didn't look like what a basketball player normally looks like(I look pretty mexican or filipino) 6) Anything you dislike? - In florida you can't fight in a organized match until your 18, that would be the only thing I hate. 7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - Short term, To be a better fighter then my Kru(Master) for muay thai. 1) How old are you? 21
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? Boxing, just started Judo.
3) How long have you been training for? 8 years boxing, 2 months Judo
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? Saw a video of a few boxing matches (still remember when I watched the Rumble in the Jungle fight back then, just thinking about it gives me the shudders) and went to a gym in my area. I only realized afterwards that the gym was the one of toughest places in London. After a few years, I realized how limiting Boxing was, so I decided to start a grappling art. The school I go to now was recommended to me by loads of people so I went for it.
5) What do you like most about it? The feeling of winning a match and knowing that all that training paid off is like being at the top of the world.
6) Anything you dislike? The fact that my nose got broken after a particularly vicious counter. Now my nose is slightly squashed.
7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? Compete in more amateur matches and one day maybe fight professionally.
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? My first session at my gym. My gym is one of the old-school places where they throw you in the deep end for the first few sessions and only take you seriously after they realize you'll be a regular; thus, I still remember getting my ass kicked by competing fighters in my first session.
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? Striking. Throwing's fun and all, but striking is the heart of my training.
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? Boxing, maybe. Boxing is a dangerous sport, and one day I'll be an old man who's most likely punch-drunk. However, Judo? Not sure yet.

1) How old are you? 33
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? Mainly judo and freestyle wrestling
3) How long have you been training for? Been wrestling for the last 2 years. Before that I put in about 17 years of judo throughout childhood and my 20s.
4) Why did you decide to start training in martial arts? Was a little bit aggressive as a young child and my family thought studying a martial art might help. They were right
5) What do you like most about it? It's complete engagement. You walk into class with the usual 101 things swirling round your mind, but when you're training it's the only thing that exists.
6) Anything you dislike? By the time I decided to move on from judo, I felt that some of what I was learning was a bit irrelevant outside of competition. And noone likes cardio do they? 7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? I obsessed about goals a bit too much as a judoka and feel it lessened my enjoyment and ultimately my learning. Now I just want to learn good stuff and have fun.
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? Was fighting at a grading and getting absolutely bulldozed by my opponent. The whole time I could hear my coach Phil - who could obviously see something I couldn't - shouting "seoi nage Matt! Seoi nage!". Getting increasingly frustrated at my lack of success, I ended up roaring "if I could do a bloody seoi nage I would've by now!" over my shoulder in the middle of getting ragdolled around the tatami. Needless to say, that became something of a catchphrase around the dojo for some time afterwards.
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? Definitely grappling.
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? No. There's so many different arts out there that I feel there will always be one that suits what my body is capable of at that point in my life.
