Just a quick surveyish type post to get to know a bit more about the people on the forums. Simply fill out the spaces as shown with what applies (I'm sure all of you have done this before). I'll try to keep it short because I know a lot of people get bored really quick. If there is any information you feel uncomfortable disclosing simply skip it.
1) How old are you? - 22
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? - Kyokushin Karate, Judo, and Jujitsu previously
3) How long have you been training for? - Kyokushin for 9 years, Judo for 5 years, and Jujitsu for about 6 - 8 months
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? - By suggestion of my parents and I was bullied quite a bit.
5) What do you like most about it? - There are too many reasons to list but my top are the life lessons you can learn and how there is always something new to push towards whether it's a tournament, a belt rank, etc.
6) Anything you dislike? - Nothing in particular
7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - Training for Nidan and tournament. Maybe 100-man Kumite in the future (call me crazy if you like)
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? - Wearing my gi inside out by accident (please don't ask about this)
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? - Striking but I like grappling as well.
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? - Hopefully not.
Feel free to add questions into the thread that you can think of. I look forward to learning more about your guys' experiences!

1) How old are you? - 24
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? - Chinese Kenpo Karate, MMA (Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling, Judo)
3) How long have you been training for? - I trained in Karate for about 10 years. I started MMA in '09 and have been training mostly in BJJ.
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? - I loved the video game street fighter growing up, and I wanted to be like Ryu, with a gi and black belt. That and a bully was messing with me, and my parents thought it would be a good idea to enroll me in karate when I was 6. I started training in MMA, because I remember hearing Rashad Evans talk about it on the radio, and he peaked my interest so I decided to go out and try it
5) What do you like most about it? - I like seeing what I'm capable of, and seeing my strength and technique grow everyday. Theres also a very addicting aspect about BJJ, I don't know what it is, but it's unlike any art I've trained in.
6) Anything you dislike? - The cardio aspect. Cardio's never been a strong suit of mine, and in my field, your training is useless unless you have the cardio to back it up.
7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - Have an actual MMA fight. I've had a few smokers, but I would like to wait until I get my purple belt in BJJ until I try to compete.
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? - Probably would be when I got choked unconscious for the first time. My coach took my back and started explaining how a boa constrictor kills its prey. He wraps around his opponent, not giving away his intentions. As he's explaining this, he's locking in a rear naked choke. He says, it then slowly begins to squeeze the life out of its prey, not attacking at any defined point. As he's explaining, he's squeezing and I don't even realize it. I wake up and I thought I fell asleep in class, and I kinda did. It was a very surreal and cool experience.
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? - Grappling of course lol
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? - Hopefully not. I hope I can still do BJJ and MMA when I'm 60, but I don't see that happening.

1) How old are you? - 23
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? - Currently Muay Thai and JiuJitsu, formerly Long Fist Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Taekwondo, Aikido, Judo, for varying amounts of time.
3) How long have you been training for? - Long Fist Kung Fu total 6 years or so, 3 of Wing Chun, less than 1 year Taekwondo, less than 1 year Aikido, 1 year or so Judo, 2 years of Muay Thai, dabbled in BJJ for a very short time in the past and have now been back into it for almost a month.
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? - I just wanted to when I was a kid with not much reason why. It was just appealing to me, always has been and still is.
5) What do you like most about it? - The sense of growth I feel from it and the feeling of having something I really enjoy that's a part of who I am.
6) Anything you dislike? - No.
7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - I want my Blue Belt. I'm gearing my primary focus on JiuJitsu right now to try to gain ground in the style quickly. I'm going to try to get my Blue Belt within 1 year. Also trying to further expand my Muay Thai. I've never had a build for striking, but I've always enjoyed it. I don't have much reach, my arms are ever so slighly short for my height, but I want to get to a high level as a striker.
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? - I remember back when I was shown by a skeptic that the Qi demonstrations I was doing weren't real. It was an eye opener. I was a total believer in that crap and it really messed with my head when I found out how much of my time in Kung Fu was wasted trying to develop a fake internal energy. I literally had every one of my Qi demonstration tricks dismantled by a guy that knew better and didn't fall for the power of suggestion. I looked like an idiot. Luckily he was a friend and didn't rub it in.
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? - This is becoming a difficult choice. I like not getting hit, but also love hitting! I'm going to say it's a tie.
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? - I've spent time away from them in the past, but I can't STAY away from the martial arts. I'm not happy with my life when I'm not training. I get depressed and develop a very negative mindset. Because of how happy it makes me to train, I can't ever imagine stopping.

1) How old are you? - 21
2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? - judo, taekwondo, boxing, bjj, catch wrestling, sambo, Greco roman
3) How long have you been training for? - I've been studying judo for 3 years, at the same class we learn bjj, catch wrestling, sambo, and Greco roman. None of the instructors hold rank in anything other than judo, but seminars and the like have brought their ideas home.
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? - I am extremely competetive and needed a way to both stay in shape and blow off steam.
5) What do you like most about it? - oh man. The one singular most thing? The experimentation paying of and my ideas paying off.
6) Anything you dislike? - people who come in and say they know martial arts and have even done the grappling before, but when you roll with them, you know, you know...
7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - short term; learn as much as possible, long term; learn so much that I can make a living teaching and competing, after comp, just teach, but never stop learning.
8) Most memorable memory since the beginning of your training? - my first tournament. It made me realize that the Zen judo I was being taught was not for me, I immediately changed schools (only technically, both schools are actually one and now is getting less confusing and is no longer Zen) and places in the next comp.
9) Do you prefer to be striking or grappling? - GRAPPLING. I've striked, but it does not allow me to think and experiment nearly as much as I like to.
10) In the future, do you see yourself leaving martial arts at any point? - I've left. But for the past three years of grappling has proven I will never leave again.

2) What style(s) of martial arts do you train in or have trained in? - Kyokushin Karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu plus small stints in Boxing and Tai Chi
3) How long have you been training for? - Kyokushin for 10 years I stared that in early 2000, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai for three years, getting close to four.
4) Why did you decide to train in martial arts? - Was told I wouldn't last a night in a Kyokushin dojo, proved the truth of those words and stayed ten years.
5) What do you like most about it? - Sparring with, training with and fighting with people who do things differently.

7) Long/short term goals for your martial arts training? - Keep doing it as long as I can (100 man kumite is a wonderful goal).

I wouldn't do that to you Kokoro. One of my Kyokushin teachers was 62 when I last saw him nearly four years ago, still trains and trains hard from what I hear but he had a saying that might amuse you "You're only as old as the shodans you can pummel".

I might add Judo back to my game soon. Haven't decided if I want to jump back in yet or not. I still would love to try Kyokushin, also.

Does that mean you can't beat any of them or your shodans are all older than you?

my youngest shodan is 22, i can still beat them, i can even beat my 7th dan's still. although they didnt get that rank from me. i have several students that are higher rank then me some in different arts. they may be higher rank and title but they still know who to come to to teach them.

That's why the quote "Empty your cup" is so important for every martial artist to know and understand.

My cup is somewhat thick and probably cracked a bit around the base at this point. I've been catching a bit in the saucer but it's getting to the point where I might need to repair the cup. Ahhh the joys of full contact.

one of my senseis always tells us he is too young to be called master, he is always searching for someone who knows more then him, he has been training for 46 years now. maybe a little more.
