What are the differences between a martial artist and a fighter?

The objectives.
Figters - whether a schoolyard fight or a ring competition - agree to fight. They have the same objectives, which is to win.
Martial artists, on the other hand, have different objectives than the opponent. The martial artist wants to survive, and the opponent wants to take/kill/hurt/maim.

Just curious, did you accidentally make two very similar threads or did you want both to be very slightly different? Because both this and the other thread could probably have just been one thread.

A martial artist usually compiles and shares their knowledge with another or others, not all fighters do that. I think it's wrong that people can call themselves martial artists without being fighters but that's not the question. So the answer that I'm going to give is the collecting and sharing of fighting information is the difference between a martial artist and a fighter.

So in your opinion, every martial artist is a fighter, but not every fighter is a martial artist? I like that way of thinking. Unless I misunderstood you and you meant something completely different, lol.

I did make two different post. They are similar, but still different. I could have found a way to combine them, but I think it would have taken away something from the question.
