I have a friend who swears by eating only Brown Rice & vegetables for 3 weeks before an upcoming fight. I haven't tried it...can't stand the taste of Brown Rice. But has anyone tried this fight diet or know someone who has & is it any good?

I'd kill myself if I all I could eat was brown rice. You don't have to eat just one thing....vary it up a little bit, but yes, you'd cut massive amounts of weight doing this. Another popular one among fighters that I've heard is brown rice and chicken.

You might want to at least supplement that with some Whey. Sure, there's protein in that diet, but if you're training hard it may not be enough. Your muscles need protein to recover from training.

I don't think that is a very good diet for an athlete. It's good, but it is lacking a sufficient amount of protein and essential amino acids. You'll get some vegetable protein, but none of the essential amino acids that you primary only get from animals. You will need some supplements which in most cases are unreliable.
The reason I say they are unreliable is that with supplement you also need a reagent to break down the supplement in to a form that is useful to the body. Other than that you just have healthy urine. It just goes down the toilet instead of being absorbed in the body. Too much of somethings that are good for you can also poison your system. You only find the right combinations of nutrients and reagents in natural food sources. The supplement makers do not address this. You'd practically have to be a scientist/nutritionist to get it right trying to use supplements.

as long as you know what veg to eat you can get a lot of protein from them the veg protein s more healthy then meat protein, meat has complex proteins which can cause hi cholesterol, and other issues Soybeans are the one of the best source of vegetable protein, and are a complete protein, meaning they contain all of the essential amino acids. Each cup of cooked soybeans offers 29 g protein. Soy products such as tofu have less protein, coming in with 11 grams in every 4 oz. serving. Beans pack a punch of protein. White beans and lentils contain about 19 g protein per cup, providing many essential amino acids such as isoleucine and lysine. Black beans contain 15.2 g per cup, while kidney, lima, black-eyed, navy and pinto beans contain about 14 g per cup. Broccoli is another vegetable that contains an abundant amount of protein. Its protein content is 34 percent of its dry matter, offering 4.6 g of protein per cup of cooked broccoli. Cauliflower, a cousin of broccoli, is not too far behind at 27 percent, or about 3 g per cup. spinach Known for its excellent nutrient profile, spinach is also a good source of protein. Cooked spinach contains 5.3 g of protein per cup, while frozen or canned, drained spinach contains slightly more at 6 g per cup. www.livestrong.com/article/377711-list-of-fruits-and-vegetables-that-are-high-in-protein/

That sounds like a diet for trimming and/or losing weight, not for physical activity.

Even if trimming weight he needs to get some better protein. If not the body will use muscle from his body for its protein source.

Kokoro,
There are only a few that I like to eat myself. Others I'm learning to tolerate. Sure there are many I have never tried, but I'm willing to try. I need some good recipe for some.
