Try to avoid the temptation to use arm locks, because they are illegal in beginner level tournaments in Judo . I'm sure you'll do very well. Good luck.

What are the new Judo rules? Why do they suck?

What are the new Judo rules? Why do they suck? IJF continues their track record of ruining Judo by banning any techniques that grabs the legs. The only exception is if the technique is used as a counter-attack, if the opponent is using a cross guard grip, or if it's a followup attack that clearly shows a full commitment to the attack had been made. This means you can't use moves like single/double leg takedown, fireman carry, or ankle picks unless one of those three requirements are met.

I haven't competed in judo since the 80's. The last time I watched a judo tournament was the summer Olympics in 88.
What is an open skill tournament?

Well guys I lost. I was a cocky little asshole, and i just played and fucked with my opponent. Regardless i was up on the score card, and still lost. Guess judges dont like that shit. Ive watched the fight over and over again, and I looked up the scoring rules, it wasnt even close. Whatever, you win some, you lose some.
I asked Chuck Lidell if he would punch me in the stomach for good luck. He wouldn't. So I blame this loss, solely on Chuck Lidell. My blood is on his hands.
But Renato Larenja was there and he coached me, so that was definitely the highlight of my day.

I haven't competed in Judo since the before the last rule change so I'm not even sure what it is now. It used to be that some leg throws were allowed but only under certain circumstances. I never used them, though. Mostly because I sucked and was usually thrown pretty swiftly lol
And don't worry about the Judo tournie, you'll just get whooped but have a great time doing so.
