How do you guys feel about fruits? We all know they're delicious and all, but I've been skeptical about implementing them in any real diet just because of the amount of sugar they have. How do you guys feel about them? Do you think their sugar content make any real difference?

natural sugar is better then artificial sugar. i try to eliminate as much artificial sugar as possible, particulate in sodas and fruit juices. fruits have many health benefits such as natural vitamins when your younger it doesnt matter to you as much but as you get older you will realize you need them more, i still need to do a lot of changes in my diet.

Not only is natural sugar better for you fruits contain many vitamins nutrients and antioxidants that you might not get elsewhere in the same abundance. Artificial sugars are harder for your body to break down Natural sugars are perfect for you body to break down and turn into ATP (energy).

Alot of the stuff I've been reading lately though has said to basically stay away from fruits. Stick to vegetables and lean proteins.

If you want to cut down on fruits, that's your thing. But at the very least eat some fruits here and there that have a lot of good stuff in them like vitamins and antioxidants. Oranges, grapes, pomegranates, etc. Or drink juices that contain them and no added sugar, like POM, now and then to get the benefits.

i'm still waiting for the book to come out about how breathing is bad for you or water. if you stick around long enough everything is bad for you.
vegetables have better proteins then meat, and more healthy proteins then meat. meat provides complex proteins which is not health. a diet of fruit, nuts and vegetables is all you need provide you eat the proper vegetables, that give you the protein. although i confess i must have my cheese burger, and steak. im a carnivore still.i just cant make that cross over.
the important part is to eat in moderation, )dont eat only apples), but spread it out.

I am a juicer (no, not that kind), I have a mix of vegetable and fruit juice in the morning, I usually mix apples, carrots, and some kind of leafy-green vegetable, then during the afternoon I have an apple and/or a pear.
Since I incorporated this year more fruits and veggie/fruit juice (juicer was $35 on amazon) I have more energy, and I cut back all vitamins, I only take fish oil and glucosamin, I used to take at least 10 pills of various multivitamins daily.
I do not believe you should eliminate fruits, they are natural, and have lots of vitamins.
Lyoto Machida endorses Acai berries xD

I just happened to take 2 nutrition classes this past semester. They both say that we are to have at least 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables a day.
Vegetables do provide protein for our bodies, but not better protein. Vegetable lack the top 3 essential amino acids that our bodies require. People that are vegans must take supplements in order to get the essential amino acids. Although I have and do use supplements it is not good to take supplements.
Reason: In order for our bodies to digest/break down and use the nutrients in order for the body to function properly it takes the right combination of foods, nutrients and enzymes. If the enzyme is missing or not in the portion amount it can harm or even poison our bodies. In addition to that it will cause our bodies to overwork which creates a different set of problems like colon or pancreas cancers.
Proteins are our building blocks. It builds muscles, skin, bones, etc. Vegetables, fruits provide carbohydrates and fiber along with many nutrients and antioxidants. They are our protein savers/sparer. What that means is spares the protein that we consume from being turned into ATP (energy). If you do consume enough carbs your body will then take your protein and change it into gluclose which in turn turns into ATP. The body has to work hard to turn protein into gluclose. This put a strain on you kidneys and I think liver. I might have to look that one back up. In the long run that begin to harm our body. (gallstones, cancers) Too much meat protein hurts too. You need the right balance of fiber (fruit/veggies) and lean protein. But like kokoro said I like to have my cheeseburgers and in my case my fried chicken or hot wings.

I think it depends on when you're eating fruit -- post-workout recovery nutrition is incredibly important if you're looking to maximize gains in both strength and endurance, and you need to replace the muscle glycogen stores used up during workouts. Fruits provide a quick boost with their high sugar content which goes toward replacing that glycogen. They also have the added benefits of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, so they're a pretty good post-workout choice all around. Add in some kind of protein for muscle repair and you're good to go.
But as a part of regular dieting, I tend to use fruits sparingly, and fruit juice essentially never. Even the unsweetened fruit juices are awfully high in sugars (nearing soda levels), and with a fraction of the nutrients found in solid fruits.
