I'm trying to add a few lbs of muscle and get more muscle definition in general. i'm fairly fit as it is right now. i spend a lot of time in the gym (about 5 days a week. 3 days if i'm lazy) and i try to eat right. i've been hitting the gym seriously for about 6 months now and while i've seen an increase in size of muscle, i've lost 4lbs!? the thing is, i'm poor and i can't afford to eat 6 meals a day as most fitness experts suggest. i usually eat one a day usually around 4 or 5 pm, and if i'm lucky i'll have some soup or oatmeal around noon.. maybe. when i do eat it's eat meats, veggies, and pasta. i snack on bananas, celery, potatos, and carrots when available but i can't afford to eat multiple times a day. i'm currently 141lbs and 5'8 and i'm trying to become at least 150lbs.
do you guys have any tips that will help me put on healthy weight for cheap?

You can add tuna and peanut butter, those are fairly cheap and a good source of protein.

fruits and vegetables. some vegetables have a lot of protein in them, and its better then the meat protein

i picked up a lot of yogurt and nuts today. pistachios, sunflower kernels, cashews, peanuts, etc because they're high in calories and protein. i tried to make sure they were unsalted or sea salted if forced to have salt at all. yogurt's only 40 cents here but i'm also lactose intolerant but i guess i have to.

you need to make sure you get all the right protein, tofu and soy milk is good for that as well

I agree with the above poster, tuna and peanut butter are great sources of protein that are cheap.
Seems like most of your snacks and meals are carb heavy, which you are burning off, but probably not really getting the protein intake you need.
Black beans are also a good source of proteins and cheap, some black beans and brown rice are a good cheap meal. But focus on sources of protein that are cheap, (eggs, beans, tuna, ground turkey), and ensure you are exercising in a way to build muscle. (Lower reps, higher weights, Olympic style lifts) as opposed to exercising in a way that is designed to tighten and tone. (high reps, low weight, body weight exercises, plyos).
But they key is really ensuring you are getting good protien, and for a few cents more you can get whole grain pasta that is at least a slower burning carb then regular pasta.

You have been given some good answers. I'll just add a little to it. Like others stated you need to get some good protein from lean meats, legumes(beans), white fish. You need a good source of carbs as they spare you body from using protein to create ATP (energy). To gain weight you must increase your calorie intake. I know the big fad right now is to eat 6 meals a day. This is done in an effort to keep your blood sugars from spiking (going up and down). They want you to keep the blood sugars fairly level. But research has proven that this is not a necessity for losing weight or gaining weight. It all boils down to calorie in and calories burned. Eating health just supplies your body the right nutrients to function as it should. The percentage of body fat that you have determines if your six pack will show.
If you are getting a lot of exercise and you want to gain weight you must eat more calories. It is not solely tied to protein as it is suggested in different fitness magazines by people that are selling supplements. The biggest guys in the gym are eating a lot of calories. Many power lifters have horrible diets, but they are big and strong. Most not all body builders usually have better diets.

yeah i know most of that. but i can't afford a lot of meals so i was wondering what some of the most calorie dense foods are. healthy of course. (obviously a big mac has a lot but it's got a lot of fat and sugar too). thank you guys though
