Well, today I was sparring in Kickboxing and I caught the guys kick, I'm a grappler at heart but since takedowns aren't allowed I went for a sweep. I kicked up the guys leg on my shoulder, surprisingly he had better balance than I expected, of course my grappling instructor taught me what to do if at this point it didn't work, I kicked his other leg out and he landed without break falling. I realized this guy wasn't a grappler because well... He didn't break fall at all. It knocked the wind out of him, next thing you know the kickboxing instructor was going "NO SWEEPS THEY'RE DANGEROUS AS FUCK BRO!!" ... Oops. Regardless, how the hell are they dangerous? We're already punching the shit out of each other. I do them all the time in Grappling.. If anything they would seem safer in Kickboxing. You don't have the guy slamming down chest to chest on your ass right after.

it's as dangerous as any other type of attack & I don't think he knows what he's talking about lol
people from one combat sport say that about others like in judo I was told we don't do strikes because they are two dangerous than I was like why do they strike in muay thai, boxing, karate & kickboxing?
I just think they don't know what they are talking about when they say stuff like that.

They're potentially dangerous. No matter how good your control is there is always the chance of the other guy doing something daft and landing on his neck for one reason or another. If your control isn't that great on top of what the other guy does the chances of him getting busted up sky-rockets.
Then you get the guys who can and will foot sweep so hard that if you don't go with it they'll fuck your ankle and drop you to boot, not exactly dangerous but ankles like other joints rarely repair properly.

Yes they do. Foot sweeping after catching the leg is common under most Muay Thai rules.

They are potentially dangerous in the way that: you can't tell how your opponent will fall or control their fall, like you said didn't break fall & could seriously damage their back, neck or give them a head injury. Also if you hit a joint in a certain way during the sweep, you could seriously or even perminanetly damage the join. tendons/ligaments or even break bones. I have seen these injuries minor & sever, but in my opinion ..if you are in the sport you take the risk.

it is dangerous because your kickboxing partner doesn't know how to properly fall, because it's not taught in kickboxing, and therefore it could be potentially dangerous becaues he doesn't know how to fall.

And then there's that other belief. I've been under plenty of Kickboxing rule-sets that don't allow foot sweeps or throws but if Muay Thai is your only Kickboxing style then your answer should be like Glutton's.

Foot sweeps are dangerous and only used when fighting dirty. Didn't you watch the original Karate Kid?

The only actor in the Original Karate Kid who ever practiced Karate was Mr Miyagi - Pat Morita. Besides, there are a number of Karate formats that encourage sweeping the leg.

I guess you'll just have to ask the teacher at the dojang.
We went to another dojo some time ago to watch their classes, and afterword talked to the teacher. The students practiced with weapons that night and so the followup question was, to they train with the swords as well. The teacher replied, hell no they're superdangerous! It's funny... the logic of some people.
