Have any of you that know the Naihanshi kata worked with it with different footwork as to break it from the straight line? IE: Naihanshi 360?

I have seen that video its cool, it gives the kata a new dimension when i first saw it, and more stuff to play with. not just in this kata but others as well.
i dont always do the bunkai and oyo on a straight line like the kata, but when i saw that video it gave me more ideas for that kata and several others. kata is meant to be perfect now a days, flawless, sparing or fighting isnt. so the kata needs to be adapted to the fight, which many people i notice don't get. its not meant to be stagnate but fluent. its meant to be taken apart dissected and add to other kata to form your kumite techniques
naihanchi is a core kata, like many it has vast applications, i have been playing with it for a few years now. and one of my friends who is in to kyusho jutsu way to much has added a lot of that into it for me (long story)
what i am looking for and have been for quite a while is the original version were it was all one kata. and had a second side too it. like a two man kata. or at least that was one of the theory.
so many applications and so little time to work on them all. Gichin Funakoshi once said, "Once you have completely mastered kata, then you can adapt it to kumite."
i posted this video a few times on ya

One of my training partners compared naihanchi or in this case tekki, with close quarters combat as well as wing chun. basically and in short he said it was shotokan's answer for wing chun, and how many of the applications can be used in it as well as the speed strikes. he also gave ranges of striking for each tekki (tekki shodan, nidan sandan), tekki nidan he more used it as a strike from 12" were tekki sandan was 3" to 6". or something to this effect.

We prctice the full Naihanshi as one kata in my dojo, learning it in three stages as we advance. I agree with you about the sparring and fighting aspects and some misconstrued ideas of kata, and the application training. Such a big and touchy subject always ready to lead people into arguments.
We don't study or practice anything in my dojo that is absent of kyusho principles. I'd love to hear some of your applications if you want to PM about it in the future.
I've never heard of it being a two man drill as well, but could see it working a lot better than most any other kata out there. Let me know what you find please.
Was it Motobu who said you only need to know Naihanshi to know Karate?

i think it was Motobu, who said that.
you should get the book bare foot zen, im pretty sure thats the one. its all on tekki, and goes into the theory of it being a two man kata. it also shows some of the bunkai too it.

I've never seen this kata done like this. It is interesting to say the least. I've only seen it with lateral movements. I'd be interested in training with someone that does it this way and working out with then doing this. This might be fun!
