I just got my Black Belt in Shou' Shu' about a week ago!
They told me that "Now, you may start to learn martial arts" What have I been doing for the past 5 years then? lol

At the beginning of the year I got my level 3 assistant instructor in jeet kune do & jun fan gung fu which is the equivalent to black belt and it took me 12 years to get lol.
I got my 2nd kyu (jr blue belt at my school) in judo when I was younger and was only a few years away from black belt but I moved away & couldn't find a judo dojo so I moved on.
A black belt is just a beginner who never quit & knows the basics well enough to move on the more advanced stuff.
Like most styles aren't what you normally see even gracie jiu jitsu has striking in the advanced levels & karate has grappling but most people don't make it to 8th or 9th dan to learn it but still claim to know the whole art lol

For the past 5 years you have been learning the basics.
A black belt means you have learned the basics of the art.

In Shou' Shu' it normally takes 7-10 years for your first Black Belt.
And I figured that's what they meant, but I just wanted to clarify lol.

the belief is that once you hit black belt the real training begins, you have not mastered anything, but you have proven yourself to be able to train seriously, and now you can start to learn more advanced techniques and training methods.

Not as popular as a black belt in origami. Gonna fold you up like a cheap piece of rice paper mate.

After 7 years in martial arts, I have yet to earn any ranking in any martial art except a white belt in TKD... which I took when I was like 10 lol

It is Chef but you should appreciate that a lot of Dragonball names are mocked from food groups. Yamcha - Vegetable stew Kakarot - Carrot Vegeta - Vegetable Launch - Originally translated to lunch
There's more but they escape me at the moment.

Being a black belt is really the beginning of the journey, once you start teaching you gain a profound insight to the art itself, you find yourself learning even more day after day. I prefer to always think of myself as a beginner, show what I know but be open minded enough to realize even the least ranked person in the class can have an insight to a technique that is new, fresh, and applicable.
