I grew up street fighting..like I had a choice in my neighborhood! I went into Judo in 1978 & did this until my early teens when I started International TKD & switched to that for about 5 years. In my mid to late teens I discovered Zen Do Kai {a MMA combining freestyle{Kyoshukin based} karate, Hapkido, shoot wrestling & TKD}. This was created by the Great Kyoshi Soma Bob Jones, it stemmed from body guarding & the style is widely used in Australasia in not only body guarding but also by the police, security firms & bouncers & has even been practiced by the likes of Richard Norton {who i have the pleasure of knowing personally} & Jimmy Barns.{I still practice this style} In the last 5 years I have been studying a form called Jonghap musul {which means "Combined Martial Arts"}which is a Korean MMA , that has it's roots in over 1,000 years of martial arts techniques , science & tradition. I like it's core values & beliefs of being aa community & reaching out to help the community around it. I'm a family man with 3 children. Have been a medic, farmer, psych nurse & are currently in management. that's all I'm saying

I have heard of zen do kai karate, is it a type of freestyle karate? I remember there used to be a poster on yahoo answers named Bushido who practiced zen do kai karate for many years, I think he was in Australia as well.
Welcome!

talon.....Australia the islands off New Zealand.....hahaha.....a very big island eh. I always thought NZ was a couple of sheep infested small islands off New South Wales and Victoria lol note: more people live in Sydney than in all of NZ:) I love the rivalry especially come Bledisoe cup (Rugby union international test match series) time! Go Wallabies! NZ should do itself a favour and apply to become an Australian state hehe
