if you're a beginner, work on regular closed guard. develop a solid base of sweeps, submissions, transitions and posture control first. forget the rubber guard. it's essentially useless. i say this as a person who excels in it's usage. it only works if you're willing to exert a lot of energy and A LOT of time to maybe get one submission. use it for sweeps and transitions if anything..

like i said, sweeps & transitions. i think Eddie Bravo calls it the Jiu Claw... go to that and take the back and work the RNC or other back subs

I never took 10th planet jiu jitsu but I do bjj and screw around a lot with some of eddys stuff from books and I love the rubber guard but I think it works well for me because I have long legs but a lot of people I know hate it for some reason but I think they forget it's just 1 position & it's not the end all be all it's just another option & it's sneaky. Here's mastering the rubber guard by eddy bravo to look at and that's just the basics because over the years many people have developed many things on top www.scribd.com/doc/47388291/Mastering-the-Rubber-Guardand of course there is always this
