Is Seigokan Goju-Ryu Karate a sports focused style? Or is it like the Okinwaran styles with their emphasis on self defence and conditioning?

Is Goju-ryu a practical style of Karate for self defense?
What are generally the best Karate styles for self defense?

All styles of karate are practical, what matters is how they are taught. I know sever police officers that use goju ryu and several other styles of karate

I'm going to sound like a broken record but find a school and see what they're doing. It doesn't matter what the style is called. I'll take a deep breath and say this through gritted teeth. If the best school available to you is offering Ninjutsu take Ninjutsu, what you learn is never ~EVER~ as important as how it's taught and how you learn to use it. You really have to shop for the best.

Is it best to learn from a really good instructor who know his style but classes are mainly teenagers
or from a instructor who doesn't know it so much but the class is adults?
