What are your thoughts on Taekwondo?
Is it a practical martial art?
Or is it now a shell of its former self due to the Olympics?

On a technical level it's extremely similar to Karate, so yeah, my vote is practical. Taekwondo has been on a downward spiral since long before the Olympics considered it as a possible event and while the Olympic event is absolute garbage it's been the termoil in the top brass rubbishing each other's training and linage that has made the name Taekwondo accessible to all manner of untrained scruff and opening of schools by less than competant teachers and teachers who see the bottom line as the most important thing that have made it's real plummet.

The battle group is an interesting concept. I'd have to see them in action before I passed judgement one way or another though.

I try my best not to group all schools of the same martial art in the same group. One school could train it's students to full contact spar while another one may be semi contact/one step type thing. On a whole though I think Taekwondo is a great art, provided it is taught properly.
