I'm curious to hear some of your thoughts on Chi. Is it real. Is it misunderstood, or is it complete bullshit? Thoughts?

I think it's complete bullshit based on medical foundations that have long been disproved There are a lot of "chi" demonstrations that can be described easily by physics and biology and as an extension, psychology. The other day, I heard a news report about a woman who lifted a burning car to save her child trapped inside. Is that chi? Many people would say it isn't, but why should they? Chi apparently gives people such superhuman abilities; a resistance to pain and unnatural strength. I believe that the mind is a powerful tool; in the example above, the woman had a clear goal in her mind and was completely and utterly focused on that one goal. The monks who claim to have abilities relating to chi have trained their minds and bodies to extreme levels and so can be assumed to be able to use their minds more efficiently in tandem with their already impressive physical abilities.

I don't quite believe it but I can't say it's complete bullshit either. Chinese acupuncture therapists use needles and such to relieve pain. They say that chi is focused at certain points and by manipulating these points pain can be relieved. I'm not too sure about the chi part but the acupuncture does work as hard as it may be to believe.
I don't think chi is bullshit but I think it's misunderstood by a lot of people.

Depends on how you define it. Chi as it was used back in the day is a phrase not a label. Like the Scottish term 'Claymore' - People identify the term with a certain sword, like the monster Mel Gibson playing William Wallace lugged about in 'Braveheart' but 'Claymore' is actually a descriptive phrase meaning 'Fucking big sword' and covers anything that meets the description - To a dark ages Scottsman any fucking big sword was a 'Claymore'.
'Chi' is the phrase that covered energies the Chinese knew existed but didn't quite understand. Gravity, oxygen, electricity, wind, the blood circulation and the human 'sixth sense' were all 'Chi'. People try to explain it to one another and make a hash out of it because they don't understand it properly themselves or because the person they're talking to is an idiot and they just haven't realised it yet. Then you get the looney tunes who think it's something like ~The Force~ from Star Wars and market it.
You can control some types of chi - you breathe oxygen for example and can improve your ability to do so using breathing excersises, you can rub your hair with a balloon and static shock people, you are manipulating gravity, oxygen and air when you blow a candle out with your fist. Accupuncture as KyKarateka rightly pointed out is circulation manipulation. Think of it like alternative medicines. Alternative medicine by definition is either not proven to work or proven not to work. When these things are proven to work they simply become 'medicine'. We understand most of the forces at work on our planet and all the things I just listed are now completely understood so they are no longer actually 'Chi' but I hope I've given you an idea of how it works and why people make such a hash of explaining it.

Here's something I believe, one of my Asian classmates at Karate told me this I'm not sure if it's true or not but I believe it. 'Chi' or 'Che' is the sound Asian people make when they're frustrated. Much the same way Europeans use 'Tsk' or 'Baahh'. If you're trying to explain something you know exists but don't really understand you're going to make sounds like that fairly often. That's where the phrase 'Chi' comes from.

I believe Chi is real in the sense that it promotes health. Chi breathing is very similar to meditation and research shows that it can reduce stress and promote internal healing like reducing (not removing) blood sugar levels. Meditation, Tai Chi and breathing exercises can achieve the same.
Can it cause power, superhuman strength and absence of pain? I think those claims are bullshit.

I don't believe in it. I believe in the benefits of breathing exercise and that's it.

Once i saw a video of an old guy moving objects with his chi, that i think it is bullshit! Yet i believe in an inner power that can be called chi,so it depends on how we define it.
Anyway it would be cool to be able to create a Kamehameha xD

Yeah, guns might make way for martial arts again if that ever happened.

Im right there with Davo01, he hit the nail on the head, another way of putting it is,boosting oxygen level in the blood to put it bluntly,Chi = Breathing (or internal energy). What the first thing hospitals give to people,Oxygen.
All metabolic processes in the body are regulated by oxygen. Our brains process billions of bits of information each second. Our metabolic processes work to rid our bodies of waste and toxins. Even our abilities to think, feel and act require oxygen-related energy production. Scientists now also agree that oxygen plays a powerful and primary role in our overall health and well-being. A growing number of researchers have shown that the best way to improve health may be related to the optimum oxygenation of every cell. 80% of all our metabolic energy production is created by oxygen! The human body is largely composed of oxygen, so it is no wonder that scientists are now discovering how low levels of oxygen can disrupt the body’s ability to function correctly.
Oxygen is vital to our bodies and of all the essential nutrients needed by humans, oxygen is the one we must have on a moment to moment basis.
