For all you gi wearers out there, do you guys wear a specific gi? Brand? Bleached vs. Unbleached? Weight?
I currently have two gis (one for Kyokushin, other for Judo)
My Kyokushin Gi is a bleached, 14oz, ichegeki brand. It's my third gi since starting Karate. (first one ripped, other I outgrew and gave to my cousin).
The Judo gi is bleached and I bought from my instructor. It doesn't say weight on it and I have no idea what brand it is.

I have a few various gi's, but only two I use consistently. My nice gi is a Fugi. I don't care for it simply because it's a heavier weight material and being mainly a no-gi fighter, that's a no-no. The other is an OTM xlc 240. It's a lightweight material. I ripped the pants on them though, and have been unable to replace them so far, so I just wear the top, and have been dubbed with the name "Sambo" at my gym.
I have a Judo gi somewhere that's in between my Fugi and OTM gi. Then I have some lame gi that I bought through my lame JJJ coach. It's a shit brand and it's shit material, and I can't get anyone to buy it off of me.

I used to constantly have five gi sets on the go when I did Karate, a full week's washing load rather than firing the thing up in multiple shots, they are varying weights because I tried to find what weight I liked but discovered I really didn't care. Currently I only have three, all 'Hunter' brand, one is plain, one has quilting and one has patches. I don't wear them to Muay Thai so I don't really need five anymore.

My Judo Gi is Mizuno's cheapest and most basic bleached white single weave. I wouldn't care if it was unbleached or bleached, it just happens to be bleached.

I actually prefer bleached gis, I like the whiteness and clean look of them. Then again they do get noticeably dirty when I go to training camps.
I actually only wash mine once a week each. My Judo gi I only use once a week, my Karate one I use usually twice but it's a hassle to wash to be honest.

I prefer blue gi's. My white one is getting noticeably dirty and it's a tad annoying.
Karateka brings up a good point, how often do you guys in other styles besides BJJ wash your gi's? We're told we should do it everyday because of ring worm/staph etc...It's just too much in my opinion to wash it everyday. It's nice, but not only is it a gigantic waste of water, it's also tough on the gi, and shortens it's lifespan. So I wash mine every 2-3 days.

That's why I had five for Karate and have three for BJJ. One training session, one wash. My uniforms live in a bucket of disinfectant between washes.

Even then I tend to have to iron mine after which is a complete pain. I might invest in another Karate gi as I can always just rotate between the two.
On a side note, a dojo mate of mine didn't know how to separate laundry and ended up staining his white gi red in the wash. Things like that make it useful to have another ready before the next session I suppose.

I've had stains from sweat in gi pants before and you can't use any normal bleach on bleached gis (chlorine bleach) without damaging the fibers of them to keep them white. The upside to an unbleached gi is that you won't really see the sweat stains. However, I do agree with the look of a bleached gi being nicer. Maybe rip-stop pants won't stain?

I just buy them bleached, sweat stains isn't really a big deal for me but when I get blood on it it's really annoying to send it to dry cleaners and pick it up again. The funny thing is that it looks perfect when it comes back from the cleaner. I wanna know how they do it haha

Thing about blood is it looks bad ass on a white gi.

It does when it initially gets on there ... but when it dries it's not even red anymore, it's like dog shit color.

My dog ate shit and threw it up on my white bedspread this morning. That was shit color on white. Dried blood on white doesn't quite look the same.
True story, by the way. It was gross.

I have turtles, no similar problem. They're pretty low maintenance actually, contrary to popular belief. Kind of like fish but they're more fun.

Way I hear it the more aquatic a turtle is the worse they are at digesting food and the more their deposits stink. I always wanted a turtle, yet another influence of the TMNT...
