Hi everybody, I thought it would be nice if I would write something about Ju-Jutsu , a "new" (Less than 100 years) martial art in Europe developed in Germany.
More info: DJJV ; Deutscher Ju-Jutsu Verband
I found an article on Wikipedia and i thought it would be good to use that structure and in the meantime to correct wrong information or add more.
Me: JuJutsu was developed in Germany in the year 1967 from the "Deutschen Judo-Bundes (DJB)" . Ju-Jutsu uses techniques from three different martial arts, Aikido, Judo and Karate,i will talk later about how they are mixed together and what is the purpouse.Yes, the system is taught to the German police forces, in fact when you take part in a Ju-Jutsu tournament there is a big chance to meet more than one Police officer taking part in it.
Me: Okey,ju-jutsu includes of the above techniques, what i want to point out is that regarding to ground techniques,it would be very wrong to say that only techniques from Judo are included. In fact , it looks more like BJJ than Judo, i can tell this because i took some judo classes too and it was not hard to spot the differences, another thing is that in ju-jutsu you are taught to strike in ground fighting or to use "dirty techniques" but they are not allowed to be used when sparring.
"At the moment i think that a lot of people are asking themselves, okey so what's the big deal with ju-jutsu? How is it different from Jiu-Jitsu? "
The biggest difference between Ju-Jutsu and Jiu-Jitsu is their history, and their objectives in Fight. While the main purpose of them both is self-defence against an armed/unarmed opponent , ju jutsu being a martial art "designed" for the polices is more oriented in arm-locks, transporting techniques and takedowns, (ground fight as well) .
But when it comes to practice i must say that both style in 90% the same techniques , in my experience i must say that the biggest difference fron Jujutsu and JiuJitsu comes from the sensei. I had the good luck to meet 4 different Teachers(From the 3 to the 7 dan) of the art and train with them at least twice, in this way i had the chance to look more closely the differences between them. Someone gave a lot more importance to grappling, someone to stiking, and someone to self-defence against armed/unarmed opponent (meaning more lock and takedowns) . I have heard that a lot of JuJutsu-ka train in BJJ or Judo too.
**Edit** Another difference is the test to advance in the belt system.
IMPORTANT: DJJV(Jujutsu) and DJJB(Ju-Jitsu) are two different organizations, that means that if you have the 3.Kyu in Ju-Jutsu ,it doesn't count in JuJitsu, there you start with the white belt and vice-versa. Anyway i have heard that it is possible to take part in a Jiu-Jitsu/Ju-Jutsu(both of them) tournament if you have at least the 5.Kyu in one of the disciplines.
COMBAT SPORT
Me: Wiki is right about those two disciplines but it's wrong (or outdated) because there is a third competition system called Newaza. I am sure that there is a german national team regarding to Newaza because my sensei was their trainer.
Newaza is practically like BJJ ,maybe with some different rules. (I say maybe because i have never carefully read the rules on both fighting systems)
Another fighting system is Allkampf Ju-Jutsu(Only in Germany), This one,in confront with the fighting system is full contact, meaning that the biggest difference between Allkampf and MMA is the gi ,because JuJutsukas always wear a white gi (in a tornament is allowed a choice between the white and the blue gi, when training it is possible to wear a black gi but when doing the belt test only the white gi is allowed)
Some youtube links to the differenct systems :
Duo System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqOxN6dNz8w
Fighting System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4Wg1-lbiqI (It's Jujitsu but is practically the same )
Newaza System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UneVWnRxtDI
Allkampf System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiEZkp96Huo
My Opinion : I think that JuJutsu is a great discipline to start with because you have the possibility to get in contact with different martial arts techniques and disciplines and this could help you to find your way,are you better at direct contact, takedowns or grappling?
What i like is the self-defense training, during a training session of 2 Hours the training usually worked like this : 30
minutes warm up and fitness, 50 Minutes self defense and takedowns, and 30 Minutes of grappling. Or vice-versa some days we work more on grappling than self-defence ,or we work on self-defence in a ground level.
Something else i like is the spirit, traditionalism is there but an open minded system as well, everything is done with respect but with the Budokas giving their all in the training. People are normally very nice, and there are a lot of meetings with other ju-jutsukas or masters from different disciplines, when i am in the dojo i feel safe and warm like being in the place that i belong. But HEY! this is my experience, i am more than sure that out there must be assholes as well!!
Something i dislike: I wish we could train more in the boxing area, but the idea is that you should not strike first and you should only use your skills to block the opponent and then rending him unable to move. I am lucky that before jujutsu i had some other martial arts experience, because for someone who starts jujutsu it can be a problem that the boxing skills are not that well trained.
I really hope that you enjoyed reading this Thread, if there is any error in it please feel free to point it out, and if there is any question or something you would like to discuss/add , i am open for them. Peace

Wiki: German ju-jutsu is a martial art related to traditional Japanese jujutsu, developed in Germany in the 1960s using techniques from jujutsu, judo, karate and various other traditional and modern martial arts. Its governing body in Germany is the DJJV (Deutscher Ju-Jutsu Verband); its competitive sport aspects are coordinated internationally by the JJIF (Ju-Jitsu International Federation). The system is taught to the German police forces.[1][2]

Wiki:German ju-jutsu includes atemi, elbow techniques, kicks, knee strikes, throws, ground techniques (taken from judo), various locks, pressure points, and armed techniques, among others, covering all distances. Training includes defense against multiple opponents. Even in the early days, because of the art's mixed origin, practitioners combined strikes and blocks from karate, judo-style throws and grappling techniques, as well as aikido-style joint locks.

COMBAT SPORT
Wiki:At the world level, there are two competition systems: The duo system involves a pair of practitioners (jujutsuka) from the same team demonstrating self-defence techniques against attacks randomly called by the mat referee. The fighting system involves one-on-one combat. In the fighting system, three phases are distinguished, each with slightly different rules. The round begins in the distance fighting phase. Once a grab has been made, the second phase is entered and hits are no longer allowed. The third phase is entered when the jujutsuka are down on the mat. Switching back and forth between all phases is possible, that is, if the jujutsuka managed to stand up again, the first or second phase would recommence.
