I've been punching a bag a lot recently, most of it was without gloves so naturally I've begun to feel strain on my wrists. I sometimes tape my wrists up really well but a lot of it is also bare knuckle.
Now I've begun to think of hand wraps, I know a lot of people use them but I personally never have. They're not too expensive so it's not really the price but the supplier is a decent drive away. Should I go get some hand wraps or go through another ton of tape?

I have two favoured options, there's proper hand-wraps that have a loop at one end and velcro at the other or you can use bandages that you can pick up in a supermarket for about a buck each. In my experience wraps last better but they also tend to cut around the webbing of your fingers unless you have them perfectly done, doesn't hurt so much but it's very annoying and takes ages to go away. Bandages will get you about a dozen sessions before something will wear through and you'll have to replace them but they'll never saw at your fingers.

I'm not sure, maybe I should just stick to the tape. It seems to be working pretty well, for now at least.

I personally think tape is way better as you can make them tighter without that circulation is being cut off feeling, idk why but its never happened to me when using tape. I remember some website sold bruce lee roy handwraps, they were kinda like reusable gauz wraps I loved those the best but they would only last about a month til they ripped. But considering they were 99 cent per wrap I think it was a good deal. Though wouldn't it be just the same for you if you just pickup some mmma gloves?

The whole point is to train bare-handed.

I want to train with as little hand protection as possible but I still need to keep my wrists in good shape or all the training would be wasted.

Can't you buy a wrist brace?

If my wrist is bad enough to need a brace I shouldn't be training at all haha

You can buy hand wraps that are like a glove and just slide on

^The glove hand-wraps suck. I bought a pair and I found them useless. Honestly, just stick with wraps; you can adjust them based on your preferences. I myself use a lot of hooks and uppercuts in my boxing so I put focus on the wrists. I wouldn't recommend Gauze wraps unless you plan on training on a punchbag for three hours straight or more. For training, I'd recommend Mexican wraps with a bit of tape.
I would never, ever recommend using a bag without wraps. You will seriously fuck up your wrists that way. Boxers use wraps for a good reason; not only to support the wrists and to decrease the risk of injury to any of the fine bones in the hand. If you haven't had an injury yet, count yourself lucky.

Yeah I never really found a point in having the glove wraps, wouldn't they basically just be the same thing as mma gloves? o.O
