I think I've 'fessed up a few times to being rather pitiful at no strikes submission grappling and since my escapes, fitness and starting positions are all getting pretty good I'm narrowing it down to a predictable or plain old terrible offensive.
So, my question is what do you guys do to encourage your creative juices for submissions?

Most people have a gameplan of somekind when it comes to grappling. They do this through baiting, sweeeps, or just plain getting to the position they want. For example when I started out, I loved playing top game and taking whatever I can get from there. But playing top game was too easy. It was like planning on making cookies for the office, but end up eating all the raw dough. So I started playing bottom game and working my way up. Typically when I roll I sit on my ass, and I look for sweeps and work on getting to the top. Along the way I'm looking for whatever subs are offered to me.
It's not wrong to have a gameplan and having a set sub you wanna go for. It's good to get out of the box. For that I'd say just start looking up different subs. If you see any that appeal to you, start looking for ways to get to the right position and go for them. As for coming up with them on the fly, that just comes through years of experience.

I've been trying to develop my ground work with the little time I have nowadays. As for my gameplan, I'm going to be honest I hardly have one. I'd rather have a loose idea of where the fight is going to go then base my strategy off the moves they might not make.

There is a bit to be said about a gameplan, just like testing new strikes in sparring, commit yourself to catching a certain joint, choke, rack or crank and go after it come hell or high water.

I wouldn't develop so much a gameplan in self-defense. I mean in the grappling, training-sport sense. I would develop a very loose gameplan in a real life situation, but as my old Boy Scouts master use to say "Be Prepared."

like keyboard warrior said there is a gameplan, but the gameplan is ever evolving and through rolling i find new ways to bait some submissions. Honestly i've never come up with my own submission or bait to my submission. all my new "moves" came from people doing them on me and me not figuring out how they did it.

This is one thing I hate about creativity. It has its own agenda.
