Why wont it? if your honest with your training, having self confidence goes along way, ive had a few blues when i was will up until my mid 20's, my base training is in Okinawan Kempo, i never went out of my way to find trouble just in my old line of work it was inevitable sometimes, ive been in incidents with 2-3 guys against me, deflected a knife stab to my guts by deflecting it into my thigh(wasn't meant too), disarmed a screwdriver held to my throat, bottle attacked few times, you don't have to train every self defense application religiously to the T, because a real confrontation wont go as planned, but if you can pick out the working bits have your wits about yourself keep half a step in front so to speak, yes karate/kempo or shotokan practitioner etc can be effective. yes im been honest!
Having a good teacher is key!!

Karate has saved me a few times, in fights against bigger opponents, than myself. While I think it can help, I honestly feel like there are better ways to train. Karate doesn't train the worst, but it doesn't train the best either in my opinion.

I don't really have an opinion on this simply because the only Karate I've really had a good taste of is Kyokushin. But assuming they train realistically it shouldn't be any less than any other martial art.
Moved it to the Warzone by the way due to it's potentially volatile nature.

So far I've had no problems with my Shotokan but what about Mcdojos too?

Sorry about that, I figured it was more appropriate in that section.
