Big knives, little knives, fixed blades, folders, whether intended to be used as weapons, simple cutting tools, or survival blades, what do you have? What are your favorites? Anything you can't leave home without? Do you sharpen your own blades? If so, how? What types of grinds do you prefer? Flat, Scandi, Convex, Hollow? Discuss! Here are a few of my favorites. Picture was originally taken for EDCForums:

Sounds good, man! I don't have nearly that many. When I buy new knives I like to give away old ones to friends that are less knife-loving. The last one I gave away was a Delica FFG in Brown handle that I hand sharpened and stropped so sharp it'd shave. Gave it to a friend that usually uses cheap, dull blades hoping to convert him to my side of the knife world.
Got a favorite make or model?

I like knives, but I don't carry any. When I was a preteen I used to carry a blade. I can't tell you what is was. It was like a switch blade except it didn't pop out when you push the release button. You had to manually open it all the way. It would lock in place and it also had a safety on it. I think I still have it somewhere around here. But I haven't even touched it in years. I just don't see myself paying that much money for a knife. I grew up in an area where if a weapon was involved it was most likely going to be a gun. Even working in the school many of the middle and high school students had guns. They post pictures of them with them on facebook and videos on youtube. Some of the pictures and videos they where in the schools. I would wonder where was the teacher? To see a knife being used was rare. The only knife was the one I took from a student that was trying to cut another student. I heard about an axe in the school, but I was away on a field trip or workshop that day. There was one other weapon on another day that I was training other staff in another building. They didn't do those type of thing when I was around. The person with the knife was a new kid and didn't know me that well. I heard about some gun incidents in the high school, but no weapon was ever found. The kids all helped move and hide the weapon whenever they came to search an area where the weapon was being hid.

It's all good JW, I don't carry knives as weapons anyway. I do find things that need cutting on a daily basis, though, and a good knife REALLY helps. Plus I'm a backpacker and it's good to have nice knives that won't chip out on you when you're putting a fire together. If you look at that pic, you'll notice all of my knives are pretty much anti-tactical. A swiss army knife, a Benchmade 707 which is actually quite small, a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 which is a bit bigger but definitely a utility knife, and an ESEE which is an outdoor survival type knife. I honestly think knives make TERRIBLE weapons. I do like knives that are designed for fighting, but only because my inner knife nerd has a variety of tastes.

The only time I carried a knife other than my preteen years was when I would go fishing. It was a fishing knife. I used it to cut fishing line, etc. I kept it in my tackle box...lol
I've seen some really nice knives. But a knife for 300.00 and up I just couldn't do it. I was at a Hall of Fame Banquet about 2 months ago. Every year they auction off a handcraft knife and stand. Th knife they say is valued at $500 or more. The stand is hand made and carved and has a value into the 100's or more. I would never participate because I usually think if I got it I want 2 and I'll use it in kata. But they only have one and it is one of a kind. But this year I really wanted it. I would just put it on display. But I didn't win.

I still haven't ever spent over 300 on a knife. The most I've spent was a bit over 200, maybe closer to 250, and it was on an automatic from Benchmade years ago. Don't even have it anymore because I don't really like "tacticool" knives anymore.
Most of my knives are around the $100 range, give or take 50 bucks or so. But I do have plans to purchase a Busse at some point, and their knives are way up there in price. Toughest blades around, though. Big fixed blades, usually survival style knives. I'd rather spend that kind of money on a big hunk of premium steel that will last the rest of my life with no questions than on something like a Chris Reeve or Strider folding knife that has tiny, breakable parts. That's just me, though, and Chris Reeve and Strider do make some SICK blades.

here in Mexico you can only carry a knife which blade length doesn't surpass the 4 fingers width, so you can only carry a very small one, but in my home i got a scimitar, so that's my knife. also i wanted to get a knife like Brit's one in the magnificent seven.

For everyday carry I usually carry my Microtech Mini Socom Elite. It is a full auto, has a low pocket profile, has a combo edge, glass breaker and is good for just every day cutting.
I will also carry a Masters of Defense Dieter II, I like the carbide glass breaker on it, it is a little beefier knife so for camping and such I carry that around.
I have an Emmerson Commander that is just awesome, it has the wave feature but is usually just a tad to big to carry around all the time.
I also own an Emmerson Karambit that I think is the bees knees, however I just don't find it as useful for every day cutting as the Mini Socom.
I've got my eyes on a couple others, I have owned a ton and traded them out at shows and stuff, I usually stick around knives that are in the 100-300 dollar range, I prefer full autos, or Emerson wave type features.
I really want to get my hands on some Strider knives for camping, just hard to justify the $$ but I have a buddy who has a few who swears by them.

Awesome taste, Judomofo! Very "Tacticool" types of knives. I'm not a big fan of combo-edges myself, though. I've been looking at picking up an Emerson CQC-7 for years now and I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Sooner or later I need to. I love the "Tacticool" look, but I tend to carry more utilitarian blades just because they tend to be just that. Also, if you like a folding knife for camping you might want to look into a Para-Military 2 like the one in my picture. Striders are incredible knives, but not what I'd use for camping. The blade shape of the Spyderco is funny looking, but it slices so much better than a Strider it's nuts. For camping chores that would require a small knife like a folder, you'll want that more versatile blade shape. The thick blade stock of a Strider lends itself more to strength in a "SHTF" situation than to camp chores where it's a lot more difficult do to detailed work with. Striders are more of a great EDC blade for hard use or for soldiers who never know when they'll need to rely on their folding knife for a lot more than what they should ever have to. But if you are out building a fire and need to make a fuzz stick, you'll get a nice one done a lot faster with the thinner slicer that you get with the Para 2, or something similar. By the way, have you checked out Jason Brous' work? www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-Iycaf-9-I&feature=plcpwww.youtube.com/watch?v=1QGicIA85Ks&feature=plcpwww.youtube.com/watch?v=dQqWiZItQTk&feature=plcp
