as far as I'm concerned fighting has a place in hockey when someone hits your goalie.
if someone hurts my goalie I'm going to hurt them because we need the goalie and if he's hurt were screwed lol
the Olympics have sissified it pretty good though in their version with all the rules against fighting.
in canada we have a saying about hoceky & fighting, "We went to see the fight and a hockey game broke out."

Like I said, that's tactical brawling. They aren't out to get your goalie because they don't like him, they're out to get your goalie because he's doing a good job.
It's a compliment.

NRL wussed out of the tactical brawls, now you can get a season worth of suspension for throwing a punch.

I've never been a fan but you live in Swan's territory, tell me Barry Hall was a girl. There are people who put knees to noses when they go for those marks, the bloodiest injury I ever recieved was in an Aussie rules game, turned my nose into a freaking tap for a half an hour. Plus the NRL has outlawed the defensive shoulder charge, now it's a game of pushing too.

I've played AFL (and support the Swans) and I played Rugby League for 10 years. I saw far more violence and injuries in League. In AFL I twisted my ankle and knee but in League I broke my nose twice, broke my collarbone, broke my hand and had numerous other injuries like ACL damage etc. Injuries happen in AFL but they are rarer than in league. League has more brawls too. And Barry Hall was a beast.....but he was the exception

Damn. I was a second rower in the club and school rep team seven years running and the worst I copped was a dislocated shoulder. You really went through the wars.
League HAD more brawls. Last year AFL had more, as did the NBA.

I really don't consider what the AFL call brawls to be brawls........ but I agree the NRL isn't what it used to be. It's still physically tougher and harder. But AFL is tougher cardio wise.
Rugby Union is the worst LOL

I still have a lot of respect for them. No way in hell I'd play the game at more than a club level though, they cover the plays while they hammer the guy with the ball. I shook hands with a guy who played for fourty years, it was horrible. His hand popped and cracked the whole way through the shake, it wasn't me squeezing or anything, his hands are just f@%&ed up.

i wish we had more ausie rules here its awesomei played it once and i gave more flying drop kicks in that game than i ever even in training to be a pro wrestler that failed epically lol
and tactical brawling is good i was pseudo famous in the jr b division for hammering defenceman through the glass for catching my pucks.
punches are legal, headbutts and elbows are frowned upon and kicking and kneeing will get you banned from the league and even charged with either asault with a deadly weapon or attemted assault with a deadly weapon

It's all good fun until someone starts swinging the stick or realises they have knives on the bottoms of their feet.

BJJ is Brazil, but it roots are from Japan. It root are often associated with Judo, which is true. however, it really goes back t jujutsu. Judo didn't create anything new other than the colored belt system. It removed techniques. BJJ didn't create anything new either, but it focused more on newaza than naga waza. They decided to keep the leg locks whereas judo removed the leg locks and later neck cranks, etc. The peopel that introduced and help it develop in Brazil were all "experts" in jujutsu.
Just like Karate is Okinawa, but it's roots are China. TKD roots were Japan which came from Okinawa, from China.
History says that when Kano first named his art judo to distinguish it from jujitsu the local people saw it and all they saw was jujutsu and that is what they called it. It took years before it was widely accepted as something other than jujutsu.
It wasn't much different for jiu-jitsu. They changed the spelling and added Brazil to make it their own. They just focused their attention on the ground knowing that most people don't have a clue of what to do when on the ground. Even today most people still have no clue of what to do. But because of the popularity of mma people are more aware, but still uniformed.

Hey!!! JW is back in the hotseat! That is probably one of the best ways of describing a lot of martial arts. People are aware but uninformed. That's deep.
