This thread is by no means meant to solicit alcoholic beverages to minors in any way. If you're underage, keep in mind that your local laws are in place to keep you from stunting your growth, harming your developing organs, and other silly mumbo-jumbo that the gub'mint wants you to believe. *COUGH* Respect the law! (But seriously, do respect the law.)
So what do you guys like to drink? Wine, Beer, Cocktails, and Hard Liquor of all kinds welcome! And yes, I did say Cocktails. Let's keep in mind that it's only been a recent development that Cocktails have started to aim for the female drinker market. Before that, they have a long history of making manly as heck drinks like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Dry Martini that will only have the less in-the-know laughing at you until you make them taste it and they can't handle the man-juice that these drinks really contain.
I'm personally a huge fan of Beer and the Old Fashioned Cocktail myself. Some favorite beers include Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, Chimay Cinq Cents Triple, Gulden Draak Ale, and Fischer Tradition Beer from France. I also enjoy a good India Pale Ale, although I haven't found one that I'd place in a favorites list on it's own yet. I simply enjoy them all.
As for the Old Fashioned, I like to make it with a strong Bourbon like Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek. The knock-you-flat-on-your-ass alcohol contect keeps the drink from watering down so that it tastes fresh from the first sip to the last. I also make it with real sugar, not simple syrup, so that the drink evolves and sweetens as I drink it. Never order an Old Fashioned at your local restaurants, by the way. Learn to make your own or find a GOOD bartender locally that makes them the right way. There's nothing like the Old Fashioned to let you know what a REAL Cocktail should be.
So what do you guys like?

I like a good irish stout once in a while.
I also like a good Rye but it has to bee 100% to taste right like Alberta Premium which it's like 1000x better than Canadian Club, which is the garbage we sell to the rest of the world lol
And I think your right about the cocktails because I have an old cocktail book from like the 1950s and it's got a lot of drinks that are 50/50 liquor/mix which is a bit stronger than your average girls drink and I think it's for business men.

All of the ones I listed are pure booze lol there's no mixer at all, but even then there are classic drinks like the French 75 that aren't pure hard booze as well but still stiff ass drinks.
I've got a friend that's been telling me he found a good ass Rye that I need to try. I'll have to update here with how I like it. Lately I've been trying to develop a taste for Scotch as well. It's always tasted like lighter fluid to me and I've preferred Bourbon, but Scotch is such an important Whiskey that I feel like I need to warm up to it so I've been buying and drinking it lately. I've found, oddly enough, that I prefer single malt to the more friendly blended scotches I've tried so far.

I like milk. You know what makes milk even better than it is? 2 teaspoons of rose syrup.

@glutton- That makes sense because long island iced teas taste like juice and are pure booze!
I have yet to find a scotch that doesn't taste like lighter fluid either lol and I think whiskeys are a big hit or miss area of liquor because there are so many different "styles"
If you get the name of the rye post it and I\ll check it out next time I go out.
@capoerista- I love milk & orange syrup because it tastes like an orange creamsickle but it's hard to find rose syrup here for some reason but I'll try it if I can find it because I love milk too lol

I like milk. You know what makes milk even better than it is? 2 teaspoons of rose syrup. Milk is gross. Do you know that Pasteurizing doesn't fully clean it? The FDA allows about .5 ozs of pus for every 16 oz of milk we drink. That's an eye drop bottle of pus in every tall glass. It's also insanely BAD for you. It contains bad cholesterol, fats that we don't want or need, and in spite of how much calcium it contains we literally absorb NONE of it. Our bones are made up of 1 part calcium and 1 part phosphate. Our bodies can't properly process the proteins contained in milk through our normal digestive process. Instead, phosphate is used to neutralize them. Our body's ONLY source of phosphate is in the bones. That means our bones are WEAKENED to process the milk and we pee out not only the calcium that was in the milk, but the calcium that our bones sacrificed along with phosphate. Martial artists shouldn't be drinking milk. The US and Australia are the world's two biggest milk drinking nations. They're also the homes of the largest rates of bone fractures in the world. If you're a serious martial artist, ditch the milk. ... Unless it's a special occasion, that is, because milk goes into some yummy stuff sometimes.

It's just harder to pick out the nice, smoky flavor behind the alcohol without acquiring the taste. I'm still working on it.

Yeah it's too easy to lose the distinct flavours of the booze in a mix it's true and alone sometimes the alcohol kills it itself.
and I drink everything that's not pot now because I just got over my addiction.... I hope... but now thinking about it makes me want that bubbly goodness mmmm

Darn Canadians and their weed...
By the way, the Rye is called "Templeton Prohibition Era Recipe Rye". I haven't tried it yet, but my friend has good taste. He did say it was a hard to find bottle, though.

I'm going to try it tonight at my friend's place and see what I think. The words "Prohibition Era" catch my interest. I enjoy Knob Creek Bourbon which is a Prohibition Era Recipe as well. I like things with deep roots like that, even if it is just the recipe. Some old world things were just plain made better. I'll let you know what I think.

that sounds great & I agree with you but I also think taste is relative as well and that's just a thing I noticed from cooking for so many years.

Subjective, not relative, but I know what you mean. I'm no cook, but I'm a total foodie and I know that you are too so I'd wager a guess that we have similar tastes in many areas.

I'm still wondering what possessed Chef to try lighter fluid in the first place...
I don't like vodka and think Cruisers are proof that it ruins perfectly good soft-drinks. I can't stand beer - tastes like contaminated water no matter what country it comes from (I drank contaminated water because I was too daft to pay attention to the sign that warned people about the contaminated water) sadly social protocol demands that when someone offers one a beer he must drink it. Anyone else notice that America and Japan are pretty much the only countries that export decent beer? Corona, Fosters, Ottinger, Hollandia, Black Sheep and Guinness aren't particularly popular in their home countries, actually, most people consider them urinal exports.
What I do like - Whiskey and dry Scotch on the rocks Straight Scotch or Irish whiskey Kaluah (Especially the current mint moccha christmas special) Brandy Lemon, lime and bitters Most cocktails made using tequilla or gin Ginger wine Stone's Mac Home brewed ginger beer (Gotta really burn with ginger though) Jaegermeister Cognac I like most of the white whines I've tried, never been keen on reds. Aside from that puny list I just haven't tried much by way of alcohol.
