I think the original beer had no hops in it & it was like pilsner or something like that first had hops & others followed suit because it helped preserve or something.

Pilsner is made with hops. So are most Belgian beers and stouts. But you really can't taste them in those beers. They're more rich and less bitter. I really enjoy Oatmeal Stouts.

This one is the best I've found: Everything Sam Smith's is fantastic, Oatmeal Stout or not, but this one is as good as it gets. VERY smooth, the head is the foamiest I know of. It's like a cloud resting on top of the beer. I can't say enough about it. It's not that expensive, either.

Just went ahead and bought a large bottle of it this evening. Haven't popped it open yet. I have a friend that hasn't tried it, so I'm going to pour it into two glasses on Wednesday when he's over to hang out for a while.

I'll have never heard of oatmeal stout before. I wonder where I'd even find something like that. Time to visit Dan Murphies I guess.

It's good stuff, although I'm not sure how somebody that doesn't usually like beer would feel about it. If you're open to trying it and give it a shot lemme know what you think.

Some of my friends are devote brewers. I haven't got the heart to tell them I hate all their concoctions because they all taste like hopps. Swallowing things I don't like isn't as hard as it used to be. I got paid today I get beer tomorrow.

Mixing drinks tonight. Old Fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, my favorite Bourbon for the cocktail, a half tsp of sugar soaked in bitters, stirred with ice and garnished with a piece of Orange Peel and a Dark Sweet Cherry. Woodford is 45.2% so it doesn't taste too strong or too watered down and the flavor is amazing. My all time favorite cocktail. Made Sex on the Beach for my wife and mom. They love that tart ass drink. I want to buy one of those devices that carbonates drinks and a bottle capper so I can make them and stick them in the fridge like a Sex on the Beach soda. Then I can let the drink those instead of having to make them over and over again. Seriously, I'm the dedicated household drink mixer multiple times per week.

Nearly a week before I get back to you... I'm not going to race out to get Oatmeal beer again but at least it's something I don't have to find a quiet place to spit it out. I didn't hate that nearly as much as I thought I would.

Ha! Wow, I'm drinking an Oatmeal Stout by Big Sky Brewing right now as I was reading your post. Maybe you should try a Porter sometime. It's basically a lighter version of a Stout, or rather a Stout is a more malty Porter to be more precise. They're smooth drinks. I'm having one after this beer.

Man, I've been drinking a lot lately. Beer after beer, a couple of bottles of Scotch, a bottle of Bourbon, and I'm partway through a bottle of Rye over the last 2 weeks. I really want another bottle of Scotch, too.
