"gunter- My mma gym has catch wrestling but it`s not exactly like the old stuff & I wish I could do bare knuckle boxing too but there are only a few schools but luckily anyone through carl cestari has a direct lineage to bare knuckle boxing through aj biddle.
Jem Mace--->Bob Fitsimmons--->Anthony Joseph Drexel Biddle--->Charlie Nelson--->Carl Cestari
We are lucky but it's hard to find people trained under carl.

Cross Body Osoto Gari, and a hip bump/cut Tai Otoshi when in Gis.
No Gi, Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, Ken Ken Uchi Mata, Osoto Makikomi. Whizzer to Tai Otoshi or Uchi Mata.
I wrestled in High School and College, so I still use a lot of Greco Body lock type of techniques, I don't really like any sort of shot based takedowns except for high crotch pick ups. I prefer throws done from the clinch.
I also like to use a lot of unorthodox Russian grips.

Chef,
Actually you begin t learn chokes as a white belt in judo. The 1st choke was hadaka jime (naked strangle). It has been many years ago for me but I think we had to know 2 chokes to get promoted to yellow belt. Of course this is in the US. I can't say what they do in other countries. The only people that don't get to choke were students under 13. I remember this so vividly one on the well know Sensei in Judo Sensei Shepherd had at least 2 sons. I dont know if she had any other children. But the older one of those boys was Jonathan Shepherd. He was huge. He was over 200lbs but every year she made sure that no one could choke him because he wasn't 13. I began to think he must have been born in leap year. He stayed 12 for a few years or so it seemed. I wouldn't question her. I have a lot of respect for her. I think she was a very good teacher. Because he was young and big he never could fight people his age. So every tournament they moved him around. I was about 95lbs and had to fight him. I beat him. Years later I ran into him as an adult. He was even bigger and taller. He told me how he won some big even and was selected to train in Japan at the Kodokan. But he wasn't training any more. He only goes and help his mother sometimes. Her younger son was pretty good in my opinion. I used to think back then that Jonathon didn't really want to do judo and it showed and the younger wanted to and it showed. The younger brother passed Jonathon in rank when I was still competing.
Her name is sensei eiko shepherd.
You can google her. I don't know, but judomofo might know of her. I wouldn't be surprised. If I were to train again in judo she would be one of a few people that I'd like to train under. She might have been a 3rd or 4th Dan in the 80's. She is up there now. Not many women were able to earn her rank because of politics at one time.
