Ok to some this might be a silly question.
How is Brazilian-JiuJitsu different to Judo?
Techniques?
Teaching?
Philosophy?
How?
Thanks

Not a silly question, but a question that gets asked alot, because its one worth discussing.
There isn't really a difference at all, BJJ is just the Newaza portion of Judo. Remember, BJJ is just a modified form of Judo, so in many ways they are one in the same.

tactics bjj focus on ground with limited stand up all the techniques are still from judo. they just bring it to the ground.

Has BJJ had a strong influence in it from wrestling and Sambo. I mean with the double legs and single legs (are they from Judo?) and leg locks (from Sambo)?
How good are the BJJ standup? Could a BJJer stand against a Judoka?

From a technical level both are the same, emphasis is the big difference. If a BJJ practitioner stood against a Judoka of the same training time and ability there is a fair chance he would lose because that's where the Judoka spends the most time and therefore has the most practice in that area, likewise, if a Judoka went to the ground against a BJJ student of equal training time and ability the BJJ student would have the advantage of having spent more time there. Having said that the human factor has and will make a liar of me. Royce Gracie has been submitted by a Judoka, plenty of Judoka have been thrown by Brazilian Jujitsu students.

Can you give some examples of Judoka who have been thrown by BJJ students? ANd BJJ guys who have been submitted by Judoka? I would love to see the comparison.

not to beat a dead horse here, but as said before, it's tactics. However I'd like to add a few points. Judo spawned Sambo in Russia and BJJ in Brazil. there was an old campaign to spread Judo around the world in the early 19th century and when it went to Russia, the guy who first founded a Sambo school said it was all Judo and was never seen again in Communist Russia.. in Brazil the Gracies just focused on ground fighting aspect but not really the throwing. Some Judo schools incorporate self-defense, weapons defense, striking, grappling, throwing, and competition skill sets into their curriculum. a GOOD school will usually focus 50/50 on grappling and throwing. Also, Judo is Japanese, BJJ is Brazilian

It happens. There's always some generalist who can out-punch a Boxer, out-kick a Taekwando student, out-throw an Aikidoka and out-grapple a Jiu-jitsu student. Like I said the human element will always make a liar out of someone who makes a sweeping statement.

It still allocates most of his training towards throwing rather than ground based grappling and since he submitted several of the Gracies my point still stands. He was a generalist who beat a specialist at his own game.

Are there any takedowns, throws or submissions in BJJ that DID NOT come from Judo?

Yes and no. There are a heap of moves in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that come direct from Japanese Jujutsu that Kano apparently never taught for Judo but there are probably a few Judo schools that teach them anyway since plenty of Judoka have reintroduced Jujitsu to their teaching methods. It's hard to give a definite answer when styles are related because there is always someone who will take it back to what it was, the Gracies are a perfect example of that, the difference is that they changed the name back to Jiu-jitsu/Jujitsu.

I've got a fair bit of experience in a lot of grappling styles from moving around a lot and the avater guy got it right the main difference is tactics.
I'm not talking about the sports here either I mean the actual fighting styles styles... yes bjj & judo both have striking!!!!!!!!!!!!
bjj's main thing is the hierarchy off positions where you move up a later from being in back mount wish is the worst to having your opponent in back mount wish is best and everything between and knowing the best submissions for each position and the sweeps to other positions.
judo's main thing is similar but includes throws like some throws lead into an arm lock and if you can't get that you go for a leg lock and others lead into a choke and if your choke fails you try for neck cranks.
I like to see sambo & bjj as russian judo & brazilian judo respectively.
kw's also kinda right because bjj focuses more on ne-waza than judo but it's nit pure ne-waza it also has strikes & trhows from judo too.
also the double leg is different in bjj than judo and is more like freestyle wresting kameda probable picked up.
and one of the precepts of gracie jiu jitsu is if the move works for you in a self defence situation use it, and thats why people say the gracies started mma because they cross trained and have a direct link to the ufc and the sport of mma sorry to tell the bjj purists.
even helio open hand chopped peoples asses and royce loves elbows!!

"I like to see sambo & bjj as russian judo & brazilian judo respectively." The Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Australia used to say that Brazilian Judo (BJJ) and Judo share a common founder in Jigoro Kano. They have fixed it to say "Judo is a popular compliment to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as both arts can trace their lineage to the same Master - Jigoro Kano." Here is the link (click on the Thursday Judo class link)- www.scjja.com/classes-timetable.aspxAn excellent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school linked to the Brazilian Nova Uniao stable.
